Heart of the Tree

Photography by #Marc Adamus marcadamus.com Been a while since I posted anything here. Hope you enjoy. This is an unusual perspective I came up with which captures a very amazing subject for me - probably the largest Bristlecone tree I have ever seen in all my travels in multiple ranges, here and Great Basin. No person is included for scale here because I thought it would complicate the scene, but the trunk of the tree in the background here is nearly 20ft across in width even 30ft up the tree. It is probably over 3000 years old, and it has been standing here, on a place miles from any road or trail in one of the most inhospitable environments on the continent at 11,700ft in elevation.

Looking at this tree from inside a different neighboring one required that I take multiple series' of shots nearly blind, as I didn't have enough room in the other tree to look at my LCD or viewfinder when taking these shots, which necessitated stitching for width and some focus staking too. Ultimately, this is about a 10mm-perspective here. Needless to say it was a bit of a process to put this together. I like it though. In fact, it may be my favorite Bristlecone shot which is saying a lot. It captured the colors, form, textures, heart and warmth of these mountain giants. Hope you enjoy. - Marc Adamus
