Goats and Glaciers

in #photofeed6 years ago

Last light catches the winter coats of some rocky mountain goats (Oreamnos americanus) as they descend down from snowbird pass. The mighty Robson glacier can be seen below in the distance. The mountain goats are not a member of the genus Capra that includes all other goats, rather they are a member of the antelope family, and should be more correctly referred to as a goat-antelope. Mt Robson Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada.

I took this shot with a Canon EOS 6D Mark II, using a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM at ISO 1250 and a focal length of 200.0 mm with an aperture of f/5 and a exposure time of 1/3200.

Nice shot! Followed you. Greetings @finkistinger

Robert, that light is so beautiful on those goat-antelopes!

Thanks. Goat-Antelopes is not very catchy.

What is with North America, Bison are incorrectly called Buffalo, Antelopes are called goats lol

They look so fluffy... hehe

Yes; like you could just go up and cuddle them. Oh except for the horns.

Wow...rare beauty. Never saw goats like this. The lines of glacier looking pretty awesome.

Thanks. The large wildlife in Canada are one of the best parts about hiking in the mountains here.

The clean hair of them takinh this composition on another level. In indian Himalaya wild animals never keep theirself so clean like them.

That's because the winters here are brutal (-40C for these animals); and so they grow a new thick winter coat each year which is always looks amazing this time of year. By spring its not so clean !

Yeah...make sense.

Thank you for you comment!!!! I love your work.I share this picture with youIMG_20181130_230250_120.jpg

Nice shot. Those look like some tough goats! They're a lot stockier and fluffier than the ones I saw in the sierras of southern Spain. They certainly look right at home in the landscape.

Yes they are quite different and genetically unrelated to the goats in Europe and Asia and should not really be called goats at all.

Congratulations @intrepidphotos! You received a personal award!

howdy intrepidphotos! great shot! And it's interesting to know that mountain goats are part of the antelope family, who'd a guessed that?

Yes they are not goats at all.

I like that you capture the soft light.
I'm only self-learning photography and recently I realized again how the light is important and why photographers love the morning and evening light. Thank you for a nice photos.

Light is everything in photography !

Great photos. So fluffy. I'm thinking snow bunny-sheep ;)
