ABOUT THE PHOTO

Today I'm giving you one of the most beautiful views in the world to edit: sunrise at Moraine Lake, in Banff National Park, Alberta.

This place is not exactly a secret - here's what the view looks like if you take a few steps back (that's my camera on the right hand side behind the girl climbing up the rock - thanks to my new buddy Chung, an amazing photographer who I met here this morning, for keeping an eye on my camera so I could get this "group" photo):

Great travel photos!

Thanks, glad you like it!

Here is my entry

untitled_(1_of_1)-Edit.jpg

Nice edit, thank you! :)

You must hate that camera owner so much... he captured what you have been hunting for ages!

Check my #howdidshedothat post

That...wow...you...wow.

Here's my entry! I can't wait to visit here this summer. Only a few more months :)
image-text

Nice one, @chaseburnett, thanks for playing! You're going to love it there. :D

DSC_5297-Edit.jpg

Nice! like this edit also :) its simple, smooth and beautiful.

Thank you, @idkpdx! :)

Here's my edit. I can see I am not the only one with the OCD...
I also removed some of the unwanted elements... :)

Derek-Edit.jpg

Haha, yes. ;)

Beautiful view indeed! I cropped out all the mediocre scenery and focused on the prettiest part of the picture.

DSC_5297.jpg

Impressive, @scottshots, that was a bold move.

Yes, I can't tell you how happy I was when this camera was set up within my frame. I had been here since the middle of the night, and set up before anyone else, hoping and crossing my fingers that someone would come and place their camera and tripod there just before the sun rose!

That was so helpful of them to lend you their gear for the shot. Sorry but I would have charged you if you wanted a photo of my gear. However I would sign a property release so you could use the photo however you wanted to...

Unfortunately I lost their contact information, so I'm unable to send them the royalty checks.

Well, as long as they don't recognize their gear, it's all your$.

The serial number isn't visible. ;)

I had the same thing happen to me at the Grand Canyon. I set up for a sunrise TL, and I though I was safe as I was as close to the edge as I thought you could get. I went off to set up my other cameras and when I came back later someone had put their tripod over the railing and right through my photo. I was able to crop and save the image but by doing so the image lost the depth and vastness of the canyon.

Clipboard01.jpg

A bit of selective color, eh? :)

just a color or two :)

I've been off for a couple of weeks, but i'm back and ready to play. Here's my entry. :)

DSC_5297.jpg

Welcome back! I love this edit! :D

Wow this place is really very beautiful and nice photography

Thank you!

Love the scenery and the blue water. Nice shot @derekkind.
Here's my entry brother.
IMG_20180324_092656.jpg

Thank you for your entry! Yes, that water is amazing! :)

Oh I just LOVE this. I am so bummed my laptop is currently out of commission. Next time ...

Ah, I'm sorry your laptop is down! You have a couple of days, if you manage to get it working...

I will definitely give your shot a crack if I get it back in time.

Oh, that is amazing shot from my bucket list ) I know how much you like your fellow photographers' gear, but let's imagine you were there alone. I have removed the gear, the facilities and admirers of nature on the shore.

Hehe. Thank you! I wish you were able to do that while I was there. ;)

You are a winner! Awesome edit, love the colors and the attention to detail (I see you did some perspective correction). Thanks, Dmytro! :D

No way! I can't believe it! Yeehaw!

It's quite difficult to edit something that's close to perfect already, although I didn't cringe when I saw yours this week like previous week, so thank you ; )
Here's my entry...

Yes 20.jpg

Haha! I aim to please. Where were you with those clouds when I was there, though?? I would have loved to do a long exposure of those. :)

Hahaa, I had to do something to your photo and distorting it just seemed wrong!! ; )

DSC_5297-1.jpg

Thank you! :)

You're very welcome. Hope you like it.

Here is my entry for this amazing shot. It's been a while since I've opened Lightroom, enjoyed it :-)fix-it-friday-photo-games-week-8-game-3-quochuy-DSC_5297.jpg

Thank you! :) Glad you had a chance to dust off Lightroom and have some fun!

Since everyone is going with natural looks I'll change things up a bit with my edited entry! @derekkind
image

Oh wow, now that's different! :)

Can I submit a "normal" edit along with my "artsy" one? @derekkind

Well, the rules say you can only enter one, so I would say feel free to show me the "normal" one, but it won't be eligible to win. :)

That's what I thought. Thank you! Hopefully a judge will like the uniqueness of my funky edits. :)
This was my "normal" edited image @derekkind

Hey Derek,

Firstly, thank you for this amazing RAW file, this was a lot of fun to work with. I'm planning to head west for two months of nomad backpacking this summer and I definitely can't wait to head out Banff ways :)

For this edit, I tried to keep that hazy beauty that comes from those highlights on the top right, I also changed the hue of the forest a little in order to maintain the warm feel of the shot. I also did a little spot fixing in the forest to remove the distractions. All in all though, this was a delight to edit. I can't wait till next friday :)

DSC_5297.jpg

You're welcome! And wow, that'll be an incredible trip for you! :D

Nice work! I like what you did. :)

I love this grey/blue look! The lake looks even better this way!

thanks, i had this version and one with happy bright colors, was not sure with what to go.

somehow, the answer is always unicorns in @derekkind's case...

there is bunch of unicorns on the right in the forest but they are hidden from all the tourists taking photos :)

I don't blame them!

I'm very one-dimensional.

didn't you meant UNI-dimensional :D

Bahahahaha!!!! Best technically true correction ever! :D

If in doubt, be different?

well i like it, and no one else did it, and the unicorns can hide so why not :D

To mix it up a little bit.

Oooh, a new crop, I like it!

Maybe not a secret place, but amazing image nevertheless. I tried to create a version with more contrast and a deeper blue in the water and the sky.

Hope I'm not too late. Here's my edit. FixitFriday-5.jpg

It was not too late - congrats, you are the Photo Star victor! :D

Awesome, thanks! Now I need to get up there myself!

Stars and Cars to the Canadian Rockies - yes!

I went for a crop to get rid of the cameras and added a little warm light and clarity to the reflections

Hi! Amazing view :-) This is my variation :-)
