Top 10: Animals in danger of extinction that perhaps you did not know!

Around the world there is a great diversity of living beings, both plants and animals. However, many species of animals are in danger of extinction because the living members of that species can disappear. This may be due to direct predation on the species, changes in habitat, natural disasters, gradual changes in climate, human action ...

Then we leave you a list of 10 animals in danger of extinction that maybe you did not know they were. Do not miss them!

1. Bluefin tuna

It is in serious danger of extinction and measures are being taken to reduce its fishing, since the boom of sushi has put this fish in the pillory. Overfishing has reduced its population by 85% in recent years.

2. Irrawaddy dolphin-river

It lives in the fresh waters of South and Southeast Asia, especially concentrated in the Mekong (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos ...). It is endangered by the increase in the level of salinity in the waters, by the little survival of the offspring, the contamination in the area and the form of fishing used for the panga fish. In 2011, there were only 85 copies.

3. Asian elephant

In danger mainly due to the deforestation of the areas they occupy and their poaching to obtain the precious ivory of their tusks. Currently the ivory trade is prohibited, but it is still practiced on the black market.

4. Gorilla de montaña

It could disappear completely by 2025, as they are only found in some towns around the Congo River: Rwanda, Uganda and Congo. The cause is the disappearance of their habitat by logging and, above all, by poaching.

5. Snow leopard

It is threatened by the invasion of its habitat by humans in China, Pakistan, India, Nepal ... It lives in the Himalayas and there are less than 5,000 specimens. They trade with their skin and as they sometimes feed on farm animals, many do not hesitate to shoot them when it happens ...

6. Orangutan from Sumatra

Their hunting and selling as pets, and the large oil palm extraction industries are the causes of their critical situation. They consider him an enemy of crops, and do not hesitate to make them disappear. Indonesia has lost more than half of the surface of its tropical forests in the last 50 years to favor these plantations. You can only find this ape in Borneo and Sumatra.

7. Rhinoceros of Java

Hunted mainly due to the properties attributed to its horn in traditional Chinese medicine and as a decorative object. There were only about 29 specimens on the island of Java (Indonesia) in 2012.

8. Tigger

Its population has decreased to more than 60% due to the human invasion of its habitat and poaching (powers are also attributed to it in oriental medicine). At present the subspecies of Caspian, Java, south of China (only lives in zoos) and Bali have already disappeared.

9. Turtle Baula

It is in serious danger of extinction along with the leatherback turtle for accidental fishing, pollution of the waters and hunting to get its shell, meat or eggs.

10. Vaquita marina

He lives in the Gulf of Mexico, and in 2012 several organizations accounted for only 200 copies. Its habitat is very small, and fishing with nets is encouraging its disappearance.
