Moon Spires. Another one of my father's photography images.

#13 moon spires 4x6 web.jpg

So.. I made a post the other day trying to introduce my fathers photography to steemit and that I was trying to show him how steemit works and inspire his support. But.. The post made like less than $2.. And he makes more than that every single time he sells a 4x6 notecard in town.. So.. It's really difficult to inspire him to join when the welcome was so poor.

There were a few nice comments, which is appreciated. But, I don't think my father is going to be signing up with a welcome like that. I already mentioned that there was a good chance he wouldn't because he has muscular dystrophy and it's hard for him to type or use certain muscles for too long because of his disease.. But.. You know.. If there was a really good welcome for my father who is like literally a legendary photography who has got some of the most amazing pictures I've ever seen.. Who knows.. Maybe he would have been much more open to signing up himself and being a part of the community.

But oh well. It is what it is. I still plan on sharing his images because he gave me permission, so. Here's another one of my favorite images of his. Moon Spires, filmed on a 6x7 Pentax in Sedona Arizona, the mountain is Cathedral, it's a REAL moon shot, not a double exposure.. He waited until it lined up and then got really far back with a zoom lens.

Unfortunately because of his disease and age he can no longer go out and film like that and hike to get a spot.. If anything he basically has to film right next to the car and stay on the roads. It's sad.. Though, on the other hand some people get dealt a lot worse cards in life.. At least he can still walk and get around. Many can't.

This image is hanging in many houses and buildings all over the world and has sold to countless people. I'm hesitant to guess just how many people have bought one of these cards over the years.. But.. It's probably a LOT, plus all the people who didn't even buy it cause they didn't have the money or bought diff ones instead or whatever.. But just saw it in one of the stores we sell at and appreciated it. I think something like 5 million people come through Sedona every year.. So.. This image has probably been appreciated by a lot of people.

Including myself. This is one of my favorite images of his, and I hope to get one like this some day as well. Cheers! I hope you enjoy. :)

Beautiful! Thanks

You're welcome. :) Thanks for appreciating!

Sorry about your father illness thank you for sharing that Beautiful photo

Thanks for your condolences in regards to my father, and you're welcome for sharing the image.

Awesome! May I know what camera are you using? Great photo!

Thanks, it's not my actual picture it's my fathers. He was using a Pentax 6x7.

Very special picture. Following you now.

Thanks! I'll definitely be sharing more nature pictures of both my own and my father's in the future. :)

It is a beautiful picture.
I'm following you.

But I'm terribly sorry Boting power is not sufficient.
Next time I will vote your post!

Thanks for the follow and the nice comment! No worries about the voting power, it is what it is.

This is beautiful man. Was photography his profession?

Glad to hear you liked it. And to answer your question, yes.. But it also still is his profession.. He just doesn't get out to take new shots very often anymore, though he has quite a large collection from over the years and many he hasn't even scanned yet! I'm also hoping to get him a drone some day, so he could just like sit somewhere and fly a drone around to film. :) I think that'd be awesome. Just not wealthy enough at this point.

Ahhh okay, well that's awesome nonetheless! You should definitely keep uploading his photos. And yes! A drone seems like it would be perfect for your dad. If he could get these from the ground I can only imagine what'd he create with a drone

That image is incredible! How cool that your father's photography is famous and beloved worldwide.

Glad to hear you liked it! And yeah it is super cool. :) Hopefully some day my photography will be similar!

Wow!

Beautiful landscape. Beautiful photo

Thanks for the comment and for appreciating!

Your father is an amazing photographer, this image is just beyond words. I'm going to resteem this post to try and get more exposure for you!

Glad to hear you liked it and.. Thanks for the nice compliment about my father. :) And also for the resteem and everything! That's nice of you.

You're welcome :)

Nice picture, I'm following you now.

Thanks for the positive feedback and the follow!

Great picture, I'd love to see more of your Dad's stuff if you can convince him to post some

Thanks man. I'll continue to post his stuff either way on my account.

Oops. Sorry.. I don't know if you're a man or a woman, lol.. For some reason I just assumed you were a guy.

This is a very beautiful picture, i love the moon in the background, also upvoted.

Thanks very much for appreciating and for the upvote. :)

Upvote🙂

Thanks. :)

Love this picture so much...do you know how to get a detailed shot of the moon in the background like this?

Glad to hear you love the picture! Sure, look up some moon charts and find out when and where the moon is rising and then get far enough back with a decent zoom lens and boom! There you go. :) It's a lil tricky, but not as hard if you know what to do!

This is a great photo. I hope you will persuade your father to make a gallery here @apolymask 😊

Thanks photo-trail! Maybe I'll be able to now that this post ended up getting a decent payout! I'm definitely going to keep working on him about it! :)

amazing photography..!!
sorry about your dads illness :/
have a get day..!

Thanks for the positive feedback and for your empathy and well wishes! I hope you have a great day as well. :)

Your father is truly a great artist. Thanx for sharing his work. I also did a macro photography yesterday. I hope you will like it.

Thanks for the great response and the nice words about my father. :) You're welcome for sharing. And cool, I'll take a look at your page a min and see if I can find your macro shot!

Thanx a lot. Waiting for your beautiful feedbacks on my posts to make my photography experience better.

This is beautifull one. Looks like your father is very good in photography. I hope he gets better.

Thanks! Indeed he is, I appreciate the kind words. He has actually been getting better in some ways thanks to a new red algae supplement/vitamin type thing.. Though he's had muscular dystrophy his whole life, I don't think that's goign to get any better unless some new kind of amazing treatment comes out. Thanks for the empthy and positive sentiments though. :)

Your father is a very talented man.

Thanks qrittex! I appreciate you saying that.

Wow, beautiful scenery
Hopefully i can go there :-)

Your old man has skills. I wouldn't get all doom and gloom over the first post of your dad's work not going viral. ESPECIALLY after HF19... I'm definitely seeing the voting behavior changing. People are being way way more selective with their upvotes. They have to be. Not sure how this is going to play out.

Well some people get like ridiculous amounts of money for stuff a lot less interesting and valuable in my opinion. This community generally seems to want to get popular or big names on it's site, and when I wanted to show my father how it worked, it basically flopped.. By the way most of that less than 2$ I got was my own voting power. I get more votes and payout on my small lil text rants than he got for an incredible image and in my opinion he'll go down as someone like an Ansel Adams in terms of his artwork. At least in Sedona. heh.. Maybe not worldwide, but in Sedona he's like a legend.. So.. It is totally a bummer to see the reception be treated no different than almost any other post.

It's not a way to get someone onto the platform that is already skeptical and who has trouble using computers too much. He needs a pretty good reason, and.. Didn't happen, but that's fine.. We'll just share an account. As I said, he probably wouldn't have joined anyways cause of his medical issues.. I just think it was a bummer to see his introduction image get treated basically like indifferent from almost any other regular post.

I hear ya. It does get a little discouraging when someone posts an amazing blog about some incredible trip or part of the word and it gets 45¢, then a girl posts a selfie with her tits all over the place and it gets $45. I commented because at first, it sounded like you were basically just blaming fellow users for not making your dad's first photo go trending. There are so many factors involved these days, especially since when I first started on here. With tons of new members, posts get buried in the blockchain pretty quickly. I follow you and I never saw that first post myself. Anyway, be sure to show him THIS one though. haha And be sure to explain how whales work and how hit-or-miss it can be.

Nah didn't mean to blame anyone in particular, just felt like something is a bit off and not right when silly stuff is being rewarded more than someone with amazing content who might be open to being a part of the community.

From what I've seen, the community usually wants to bring in new high quality content creators and I've seen that effort made a lot and did not see it the other day reflected in this community.

But perhaps the algorithms and stuff had something to do with it. When I talk to him I will definitely mention the whale aspect and how it can be a bit hit and miss. But now that this post made as much as it did, he can clearly see the potential there and the power of all this.

I think there's a good chance I can still talk him into opening up his own account. But.. If it's just too much for him and his condition. I'll still definitely share his images here on my page.

Oh MAN! Know what else?? I bet something as simple as different tags could have made a difference too. I bet if that post with his lightening one was also tagged "introduceyourself" it might have taken off. Seems a lot of whales browse there, looking to reward good new members.

You know what.. I was thinking that exact same thing after I read your message the other day.. I was like.. If I had used the #introduceyourself tag it probably would have went a LOTTT better.. But for some reason.. I didn't use that tag, it just slipped my mind.. I guess cause I was trying to introduce someone else and not myself.. I dunno.. But yeah.. I agree.. That would have been a smart move and I should have done that!

I just noticed there's $100 on this post. Well shit. Maybe I can still work on him in regards to making his own account after that.
As I said in my original post, I can't promise that cause he has muscular dystrophy and can't use keyboards a lot.. But.. This now can show him the power of this social media and why he might want to get involved.

Next time I talk to him I'll tell him about this and I guess we'll see what happens.

For anyone who happens to read this.. I certainly came off as negative a bit and complaining, but.. I am grateful for what I've got out of steemit.. It's just annoying sometimes to see some really lame posts out there make a lot of money and then to try to introduce my father who is basically like a legendary photographer and getting almost nothing.. But.. This second image gave me the kind of response I was hoping for the first time.. If I show him this.. Maybe that will be enough to get him to make his own account. Time will tell.. Thanks to the people who helped.

Your father has amazing talent to capture such a wonderful image. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful! your father is very talented :)

Very nice; I am glad your dad is still encouraged to go out. This is important, there are many things that can be appreciate it still. The world is beautiful

Great. Why don't you try to publish some of your fathers photos (look at http://www.calvendo.com).
