Kodak Ektar 100 is probably my favorite film, really. If you look at results with Portra 160 and most notably portra 400, for me, they look somehwat digital, and maybe - too natural. Simply said Ektar twists colors somehow, one can really feel that 35mm film vibe and atmosphere.
My standard cheap 35mm set: Canon 500N, Olympus Zuiko 50mm f1.8, Tamron 28mm f2.8 olympus.

they still produce it, for 35mm and for medium format also!
there are many different emulsions in shops - more than this this year appeared a few new film productions.
