Remember that Lego set I mentioned my son got for his birthday? Remember how I said it was time to move him up a notch? Well, this little guy used some of his birthday money (he got waaaay too much from his grandparents) to buy himself a Lego Technic set!
Browsing all the different Lego sets at Makro must’ve taken about half an hour (ok, maybe a little longer) for him to finally make up his mind… I’ll admit - even I was excited when he finally bought it - hehe 😉
It took him the whole afternoon and then a bit of the next morning to get it built. (Admittedly, this set is rated for ages 9 - 16.) Definitely a better challenge than his regular Lego sets!

Usually he builds from the instruction booklet you get in the box. But Lego Technic actually has an app you can download with all the building instructions. Wow!! Well done to Lego on this app!! You can zoom in on the image, rotate it (3D simulation) and it even has animation showing you exactly where to insert/build each piece. Definitely worth checking out!!

This particular set is labelled Race Kart and even has another model (Track Car) that you can build using the same pieces (I’m sure he’ll be breaking it up soon to build that model). And to top it all off, the piston in the engine moves when you push the car!! But wait - there’s more (sorry Verimark) - you can even change the gear so that the piston moves fast or slow!
Ok, so maybe I’m also hooked and will be building one too 😉

That app looks awesome! I haven't built any sets yet that have an app.
I love lego and putting it together with my son is rewarding
Check out my Latest Blog
You should definitely try it out!! Even if you just download the app and have a look 😎
That's amazing I did't know that such an app exists. Do you need to scan some qr-code to get the description or can you check out any set you like? I want to be a child again:)
The instructions for all the Technic sets are available for free with the app - no need to scan anything! Check it out 😉

Awesome buddy. Good luck.. see you in chat soon :)
For sure!!
Very nice post.
Just for interest sake in 1969 I received a battery operated VW Beetle, from my grand dad, with a see-through engine in which the piston also moved up and down. (only one speed though)
Haha - nice!! I know my son would love that - even now :)
Gee. Lego is why fancier now than I remember it being.
So true @choogirl!! Waaaaay fancier than when I was a kid ;)

STOP@cheeto.blue, great story and great images!
I was really impressed with your visuals in this post. They drew me to the end of your article. It it is great to see children learning and having fun at the same time!
Wow, thanks for the super kind word @sumatranate ☺️
You so right - it's great when get get to learn whilst doing what they love 😎
O......m.......g....... Is this what the kids have these days?!?!?!?! I grew up on lego, literally was obsessed! Then as I got older I got hooked on mekano (cant remember the spelling) then I got a little older still and got hooked on working with my hands and building things as a machinist, ended up building high tolerance plastic injection molds....... funny how life works out eh :P
(Now Im an oil rig worker haha not sure how that got in there 😜 )
Cheers and nice to meet you mate!
Oh wow! I remember Meccano!! That was for the clever kids ☺️
Yip, kids have AMAZING toys nowadays...
Wow, amazing how life does work out hey 😉
Meccano thats it!! hehe more for the kids who couldnt keep their minds still.
Thats life for ya :P
Cheers mate
Oh gosh - then it's for my son 😆
Haha its better than alot of the other stuff kids could be doing at that age. I would imagine its the same (or worse there maybe) but theres alot of bad stuff for kids over here that arnt watched carefully
I think that's everywhere man!! 😔
Great educational way of building up something to play with @cheeto.blue we built our own go-carts from old wooden bathroom 'mats' and pram tyres. Lots of leg power, cuts and bruises over the years. How times have changed.
Awesome to see the young man learning from modern and old to have loads of fun.
We definitely worked more with our hands than the kids today!!
Legos were one of my favorite toys growing up, and are still my favorite toy now that I have boys of my own!
Haha - I'm even tempted to build one of those Technic sets - they're amazing!! Thanks for stopping buy 😊
