Interesting Places That I Worked At This Week

in #photography6 years ago

Some pictures I though would be interesting to share

This picture was taken on the Steenbras Dam Wall which is situated just above Gordon's Bay. As far as I know it is still accessible to public, but not a lot of people go there anymore. It used to be quite a popular picnic spot, there are some abandoned swimming pools and chalets close by which makes it look quite eerie.

This is the view down the valley from the dam wall, there is a trail that runs all the way from the ocean to the dam wall if you are brave enough to walk that far.

This is one of the few projects that is actually interesting at the moment, they are busy core drilling and is at 550m deep at the moment. As you can see from the pictures they are going through some interesting layers as they go deeper. The end goal is 750m deep, so they still have a while to go.

The next picture was taken at Kylemore outside of Stellenbosch, they are busy paving a road. Sometimes the smallest sites have the best views.

This picture was taken on the Bains Kloof Pass, there is a camp ground with some tame Springbuck walking around. It is quite interesting when you can get so close to them.

A bit of a progress update on the reservoir, they finally got out of the ground and is busy with the steel fixing. Next they are going to start shuttering and cast the walls.

One of the awesome things about the Western Cape is the diversity, this is two hours' drive from the sea. If you use your imagination you can see some cowboys galloping over the plains, complete with the railway track in the picture.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures, this is just a small look at all the interesting places I drive to each week thanks to my job.

You are blessed with your Work Locations, Looks a lot better than an office wall!

It is to some degree, the problem is the distances I have to drive to get there..

Fascinating photos, especially for those of us who have never been to your country! I really like that scenery of the mountain near Kylemore; such rugged peaks! Thanks for sharing this tour in #steemitbloggers 😊

I enjoyed your photos very much! You are so priviledged to have this kind of working environment.upvoted and commented by rubelynmacion of krypto

Great photos and I'm from Kryptonia @ianstevenson

wooooooaaaahhhh :) i was amaze to see this..thank you @gracealone

Great to see the progress going on with water planning in the pipeline @chr7is

The photo taken with the railway track, clouds pumping over the mountains as a backdrop makes me yearn to visit again, so many open spaces to explore (not impressed with cities)

That is one of the nice things about South Africa, there is so much to explore and so many places that's not developed.

You sure do have some fascinating views. I would be late for everything because I would be too busy gawking!

Interesting pictures here, @chr7is! Quite a sight to enjoy too. The weather seemed a little gloomy, so I guess it's good that you don't have to bask in the sun. :)

good job, thanks for sharing. Kryptonia ID @ofili2

Yoh! those pictures of the Steenbras Dam took me back to my childhood - must be more than 40 years. Although I have been there in the last 15, it still looks much the same. And as for those cores - fascinating layers - where exactly were you drilling? I assume all part of the water augmentation programme?

Like you, the diversity of the Western Cape amazes and fascinates me: always more interesting viewed through someone else's lens!

They are drilling at various locations around Steenbras Dam, more towards Grabouw's side. It is for the water augmentation program yes.

Oooh! I love seeing the progress as this project continues. :)

core samples photo is my favorite. id love to know whats in each of the layers! so cool!

Done.. Thanx for the share..

Sorry to come in so late.

I enjoyed looking through this post, and when I read about the chalets at the dam, I sort of wondered, a pity nobody took them over to use them as a retirement village.

Pensioners in SA do not get much, unless they invested in a private one, so I imagine that where accomodation could be provided cheaply, they could be popular - if not as full time residences, then as places for pensioners to go to for a ten day holiday, without it costing them six months pension.

I had thought of doing it years again when I saw some 3bedroom houses, some with swimming pools, which had belonged to the railway station, but then trains no longer stopped there, the station was closed and the houses abandoned. Unfortunately it was too dangerous because of the high unemployment in the area.
