15 months in the life of a tree

in #photography2 years ago

Most trees don't have a blog. But the birdberry tree in my back yard is not most trees! Here's 15 months of photos, starting with today.

October brought typical fall weather to the Okanagan (the Southern part of British Columbia). We had a dry winter and spring, a scorching hot summer with wildfires, and then fall arrived with cooler temperatures and some welcome rain. Things greened up briefly in September, but as early frosts started showing up this month, trees have gone golden and red.

You may notice as you scroll down that last year we didn't get this colourful display. The tree went directly from green to covered in snow!

Another difference this year is that the tree did not flower or bear fruit. No fresh berries this year! I truly was not expecting that. This series was only supposed to be 12 months, to show the full seasonal cycle. But apparently at least 2 years will be required in order to get a full picture of how this tree buds, vegetates, flowers, fruits, and finishes up for winter.

Here are the previous months, going backward in time:

They look like the pyracantha we have in France except ours are bushes that give the orange berries in October. I think they're only edible for birds lol😅 Here I am Halloween 2017 with them in my scarecrow hat😝

Very nice! :D
Yes I think these berries here are also only for birds. They look very similar, and must be the same, or a closely-related species.

Here in Mexico there are beautiful trees, some with bright orange flowers and others with sharp purple flowers. But they don't smell🤷‍♀️ Haven't seen any berries yet, but it's still hot in the 30°'s 😅 I'm working on Morelia's city center blog. Almost fried my face off taking pictures yesterday🤪 Got some nice tree pics too🌳🌴💟

You could start a whole new Hive account and write about the world through the eyes of 10 handpicked trees in 10 different places around the world. LOL. I love the idea of seeing the world through eyes other than our own.

Nice post, lovely tree.

Yes.... seeing the world through the eyes and maybe even the minds of others.
I'd !LUV to experience that :))

The sky is as pretty as the tree. It's eerily foggy in January and pristine blue in other months. Remember when it was orange in purple during the summer forest fires? Crazy!

!LUV it! Absolutely stunning. That tree could make an entire calendar.

Awesome post bro!

I love how you put the photographs together month by month. There is a special quality to behold with each and every one.

In August the tree looked so vibrant and gave me this really good feeling, and that capture in July with the sun peeking through the trees is spectacular.

I have this feeling like... If everyone went out and spent time with nature like you do, the Covid crisis would be solved in no time at all :D No social distancing necessary! ;)
