The Daintree

I had heard about the Daintree, most Australians have. There was a some suggestion that it was beautiful, amazing even. That this tropical rainforest was one of those 'you have to see it in your lifetime' type on places.

But maybe that was just one of the those things. A story we tell tourists, international tourists, and yes for them this is something different to what you would see at home, but I mean I'm seen a lot of places that are meant to be tourist hotspots and most disappoint.

But this doesn't, it is that odd mix for Australia, lush green, hills, dense forest. But it is a long way from home. I live in the south of Australia, in Melbourne, a place of cold(ish) winter days, a society built on a big city vibe, sports, arts, food all of that sort of thing. And this is a world away, okay a 3.5 hour flight and maybe a 2 hour drive away, but it's another world. It is like something you've never seen before.

And yeah there are the tourist traps, there is a rainforest walk with man made gantries all over the shop and it's costs way too much, but it's also pretty cool, and it is something you don't see everyday, and the you get up in the canopy, and it's peaceful even though you a surrounded by people and that because they are awestruck too.

It not somewhere that I'd been before, but it is likely somewhere I'll go again, a day wasn't enough, I was to explore, get dirty, find the places that others aren't going, see something a little different
