The blue lagoon is listed as part of the twenty-five wonders of the world. It is located in Iceland. The destination is famous for the presence of geothermal water coming from two thousand meters below the surface of the earth. The water temperature is approximately between thirty-seven and forty degrees Celsius. The seawater and fresh water mix at extremely high temperatures due to the drilling of holes at Svartsengi, which is a power plant in close proximity to the lagoon.
Once the holes are drilled, water rises to the surfaces with minerals, algae, and silica that it picks along the way. These three compounds are responsible for the blue color of the lagoon. The silica reflects sunlight to cause the blue color and algae could sometimes reflect sunlight to form a light green color. A fascinating thing about the blue lagoon is that the real color of the water is white. When the water is poured into a container or cup, it is clear.
There are numerous activities to take part in such as visiting the lagoon spa for a silica mud mask, the steam and sauna rooms that are carved into lava rock, the man-made waterfall, and even the soothing relaxation area that is in close proximity to the changing rooms.
