Na Drini ćuprija (The bridge on the Drina river) Part 3

in #photography7 years ago

Mehmed Pasha Sokolovic was an Ottoman statesman. Born in Ottoman Bosnia into a Serbian Orthodox family, who was ordered to built great bridge on the Drina river. OK, he was Ottoman statesman, but what was reason to build bridge?

Turkish statesman

Officially empire needed that bridge on that place, but there is something behind that reason. If we wonna know real reason we must go back fifty years earlier before upbuilding bridge.

Bridge on thhe Drina

That day was just an usually day in village sokolovic, until turkish soldiers came. Everybody knew what coming is next. Some mothers took their sons in the woods, unfortunately mother of little boy Bajica Nenadic didn't. Turkish soldiers took little Bajica and other boys. Mothers of the boys were sad and were crying, and they followed soldiers and their sons...but there was one big setback on the road, that was Drina, big, fast and insurmountable river.

Zulum

Soldiers and boys went in the little boats to Carigrad, nowaday Instambul. The last thing that little boys saw were mothers's tears on the coast of ruthless Drina river. That scene stayed in their minds for the whole life. This proces of taking Serbian childrens from their mothers is named "zulum" and people who did this are "janjicari".Little bajica was named mehmed and he become turkish statesman, but that scene persecuted mehmed every day, after a long time he decided to go on the coast of drina, he looked on the fast, gorgeous river and start crying. He said to his solidiers to build bridge on that place, and finally he met his mother again.
