Pretty Bokeh

bokeh

I think the bokeh in this photograph turned out beautifully. The colors, contrast, and shades took me by surprise. Sometimes you get a better shot than you think you did. What do you think?

Click it for the full resolution version! Shot with a Tamron 90mm Di Macro lens at f/13 on a Nikon D750 at ISO 800.

The light was definitely in my favor.

Nice, the bokeh does a good job of making the subject pop, and melds the back ground features into a nice frame for the subject as well. :)

Thanks for the feedback @mweich :)

Beautiful indeed :)
Can you recommend me a similar lens but less expensive than this one ?? I'm considering getting a micro lens.

Thanks!

The Tamron 90mm Macro is about the cheapest good one in the category. This is the older 272E model, which has the "Di" change that supposedly helps reduce reflections back to the digital sensor. It doesn't have the newer internal focus or image stabilization, but you don't really need those anyway unless you don't mind spending double the price. You can find the previous 172E model (without the Di) for dirt cheap, and if it's Canon it will work on any AF body I believe. If Nikon you'll need a body that can drive older autofocus lenses that don't have motors.

If you're on a budget you should be shopping used. I think you can get a used Tokina 100mm f/2.8 for maybe a bit cheaper, but from my research online it seems like the Tamron is the better lens, and should be about the same or a little more. If your budget is real tight and you shoot Nikon (and your camera is compatible), there's a Tamron 172E on eBay right now for $185 shipped from Japan.

There are also older manual focus lenses out there for the Nikon system but I found they're not price competitive with the Tamron 90 really. You'll probably learn that manual and distance focusing is better with macro anyway, but the AF will come in handy for when you actually use it as a telephoto or portrait lens. :)

I think I'll wait until I have enough money. I don't like buying used lenses, I know they're cheaper, but I'm just not comfortable with the idea. Anyway, thanks :)

Ah, if you want a new one then the newer Tokina 90 or Sigma 105 seem to be good. I haven't done much research on the Canon end of things but the new prices of the 3rd-party lenses have been creeping up near the price of Canon's 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens, which I hear is pretty damn good.

But really, consider the vast gap in price between a perfectly usable used lens and a new lens. It's crazy to want a new lens if it costs 3x-4x more than used. :P

Great photography @pfunk. You should have shared a couple more. :)

Thanks. I wanted to highlight the bokeh in this particular photo.

Yes, sometimes a single image 'sings' just by itself and this is one such image, I feel.

I think the bokeh in this photograph turned out beautifully.

I think so too! Beautiful picture!

excellent !!!

Thank you !! !! !!!!!!! :-B

Intricate details of a flower revealed by a great camera and even greater photographer behind it. Good job! :)

I agree, it's beautiful.

How does one achieve this much-vaunted "bokeh" effect in photos?

Normally with less f (like f2.8) and a telelens. So you have distance between de background and the subject

It's awesome man, came out perfect. Crazy you can get that shallow depth of field at f13 just by focusing super close.

Thanks! I'm not sure how it compares to other lenses in this area but yeah, the depth of field is still very shallow even at f/11 and beyond.

A very nice picture <3

Thank you!

Very nice picture. I did use the tamron 90mm and the sigma 105mm. Both are very good. like all macro lenses the autofocus is very slow but for macro its no problem. And indeed..the bokeh is very beautiful. If you want please take a look at my profile. I post many photos. All own work made with mysony a77ii. @mvdbroek1983

Thank you :) Which do you prefer? And which models did you use? There are so many revisions with these 3rd-party lenses.

Most Beautiful! I love zooming in on your photos. Thank you!

Thank you. You are most welcome, @greatdabu

Praise from Caesar ;)
