Stuck to Everything

in #photography6 years ago

Though many fish species live in the challenging environment of the marine intertidal few attempt to hold their station. Crushing waves and continuously changing water levels are just some of the challenges that intertidal animals have to face. This suction clad little fish is the Northern clingfish, Gobiesox maeandricus. whose home is the Northwest Pacific, makes its living in this hostile environment. This little fish uses a ventral suction disc to stick to rough substrates in the intertidal zone so well that it can prey upon on anything stuck to nearby rocks like mollusk or limpets.

Living along rocky shores from Alaska to Baja California, Northern Clingfish often lie low in tide pools, hiding under rocks. A clingfish's suction cup does double duty. When the tide goes out, a clingfish's pool might be left high and dry. But the cup holds in moisture, so the fish can still breathe. Tucked safely beneath its rock, the clingfish waits until the tide rolls back in again.

In the Pacific Northwest very few species are the target of predators that live on land, but in the Puget Sound, Gopher Snakes commonly hunt in the tide pools and seek out these little fish.

Finding and photographing these little fish can be very difficult, keep a sharp eye out in the shallows and tide pool, with a little work and patience you will find them. Once found find your best angles and create some great images.

Thank you

A type of fish that is worth studying and research, and who can dive in this possibility will have a real knowledge of this type of fish, but what types of fish that feed this fish?

Please follow me and like my posts

We have a very similar fish that lives here in Ireland. They look the exact same, I remember holidays on the west coast where we would spend hours looking through rock pools.

Thanks for the reminder.

Cool about the snakes hunting them! Tide pools are so neat, I could spend days poking around in them lol Love the stuff you share, the underwater world is so fascinating.

Your photography is amazing!

very beautiful photos. great stuff from the author.

I wonder how you guys make this shots . Must have taken lots of years of practise. Hard cause you never can teach the fishes to make apose, but you got the instinct to click and capture at the right time . Good job @scottdphoto

Ingredients

4 cups uncooked brown rice (or white if preferred)
2 cups whole milk
2 1/2 cups cooked ham, cubed
3 medium tomatoes, diced
1/4 cup crispy bacon bits (optional)
1/4 freshly chopped chives (optional)
Comeback Sauce:
1 medium onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium lemon, juiced
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons dijon mustard
1/4 cup chili sauce or sriracha
2 tablespoons worchestershire sauce
4 ounces cream cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions

Cook the rice according to the package instructions until just tender, not sticky (you still want it to have a slight bite to it). Drain rice and cool a little while you prep the sauce.
Combine the onion, garlic, and lemon in a food processor or blender and pulse until combined. Add the remaining ingredients for the sauce and blend until smooth. Combine the sauce, tomatoes, milk, and the rice in a large skillet or a shallow pot and stir until combined. Place over medium high heat and stir occasionally for about 20 minutes until it's heated through. Add the ham and reduce heat to low then cover and simmer until all of the milk is absorbed and the rice is hot and thick.
