swimming in summer seems to be one of the most popular things to do. Whether it be at a lake, river, dam, beach or public swimming pool. It is a great way to cool down just a bit on a hot summers day. Well, in South Georgia a warm summer day is around 10 degree celsius, which isn't exactly what you think is warm or BBQ weather. However, for penguins that is warm, as their blubber layer makes them quite susceptible to overheating even on a day as cool as this.
So, like the rest of us, when they are feeling a tad warm, they head on down to the beach and go for bit of a swim to cool off. Talk about a crowded beach when over 100,000 people turn up and they are all wearing the same swim outfit as you... could be awkward.
