Nature Photos with a Nikon P900

in #photography7 years ago

I just had to see what a Nikon P900 would do for myself and I am impressed!

First Things First

I had to get the obligatory N-Number off an airplane. I'm pretty sure it was the government spying on me, so now two can play that game! :b

The sun coming through the clouds today was just awesome.

Same park, different camera and day.

I couldn't get anywhere near this guy, but the P900 could! This was taken through dense brush about 50yds away.

Beautiful bird, at least for these parts.

Very meme worthy pose.

We were a good distance away from this guy too and the pics came out excellent! I'm very impressed with the Nikon P900. It is a little heavy, but has a nice comfortable hand grip and is nowhere near as heavy as lugging around a 500mm lens for my DSLR. The picture quality was also superior to my Sigma 500mm on a Canon SL1 at distance.

Nice shots! And welcome to the P900 club! :)

Great shots of the bird! Looks like that camera fits your needs well.

@pfunk you look like supporter of wild life check this out my story about menace of zoo

Nice photo's. And that does look like a meme-worthy pose hahaha ^^

Wow, those are sick. Can't believe the clarity on the zoom. The birds look inches away. Nicely done.

you had me at Nikon! I just posted my first photo blog here, and have been trolling around looking for other people who enjoy nature photography and the like. How did you find the battery life? I'm shooting with a piddly 7200 right now, and I want to upgrade, but I don't want to go to too many bells and whistles because I lug my gear all over the world and it's a combination of reliable performance without too many fancy add-ons, and replacement costs that keeps scaring me off...

How did you find the battery life?

I just got the camera today, didn't even fully charge it, took it out for an hour shooting video and took about 100 pics with no issues. So I haven't had a chance to really test it, I'll post an update on that when I get a chance to.

Yeah the lenses for my DSLR were adding up in price and to get anything longer than a 500mm was just way more than I would even consider spending for a hobby.

I'm very happy with the results of the P900 so far. Tonight I will try to get some moon/star/planet shots if I can.

Looking forward to your planet shots. This week is a good time to capture Saturn as it's at its closest approach tomorrow. Jupiter is still close too and can be seen further to the west in the sky.

Oh, and you'll need to manually focus as the auto-focus doesn't work well with point light sources. If the moon's up you can use that as a focus target, but otherwise you'll have to rely on judging it by eye on the screen.

finding an "infinity" viewpoint somewhere on the horizon and dialling it in by eye works pretty well!

Awesome, I'll keep an eye out! I've not really figured out the math yet behind astrophotography, but I'm hoping to do some practising before I head to Iceland later this year. I know it's not all about gear, and to me 'feeling' is what's important... buuuuttt.......I'm always secretly lusting after a new toy

Amazing shots! I love the quality with the P900.
