What is good folks i’m sitting here looking at the calendar and realizing we’ve been hearing the same song on repeat for a minute now about how agi is just a few months away eh last year it was "by 2025 for sure" and now that we’re standing in 2026 the goalposts are growing legs and sprinting toward 2027 or 2028 or whenever the next funding round needs a boost. It’s wild to watch these ceos stand on stage and pivot from "digital godhood is imminent" to "well agi is actually just a research intern" the moment the deadline hits the wall. I mean look at the news cycle lately you got one guy saying it’s a bubble and another guy trying to sell ads in his chat bot because turns out running a superintelligence is expensive as hell when people are just using it to write emails they could’ve handled themselves.
The advancement is real don't get me wrong i see the progress in the models we're using every day but there’s a massive gap between a flashy demo and a system that actually understands the world without needing its hand held 24/7. It’s either a straight up lie to keep the stock price pumping or a total delusion about how hard the "last mile" actually is because every time we think we’re close we realize the problem is x2 or x3 more complicated than we thought initially. I’ve been deep in this space for a long time and the pattern is always the same where people get blinded by the hype and forget to look at the plumbing beneath the floorboards. They promise you a self driving life but give you a better pair of binoculars instead.
It’s why i’m always preaching about staying grounded in things you can actually touch and control because while these guys are busy redefining what "intelligence" even means so they don't look like they failed their own targets you still gotta deal with the reality of the work in front of you. Don't get caught in the sauce of these shifting timelines folks because at the end of the day a promise of a "research intern" in 18 months doesn't pay the bills today. Stay skeptical and keep stacking because the only agi that matters is the one that actually works when you click run not the one living in a ceo’s slide deck.
