Picking Some Wild Garlic

in #plants2 years ago

I have never done it before, to go to the forest and pick wild garlic but I did yesterday.
Wild garlic is a plant that grows naturally in select places and it tastes and smells almost exactly like an ordinary garlic you know. I love garlic so I decided to go and find it.

My girlfriend knew exactly where to look for it. All you see on the photo is full of this garlic plant.

It has many names how this plant is called, it includes Allium ursinum, known as wild garlic, ramsons, wild cowleek, cowlic, buckrams, broad-leaved garlic, wood garlic, bear leek, Eurasian wild garlic or bear's garlic.

This plant is actually a protected species in Estonia and its forbidden to sell it. Though its not really illegal to pic it and use it for your own food.
Also, its not really advertised where those good growing places are located.

Also you should pick the leaves without damaging the stem because the plant might not survive it and not grow the next time.

When you stand there, the forest smells like garlic, pretty weird.

I collected 2 small bags worth of wild 🧄, enough to make some boxes of amazing pesto out of it and also have some left to just use on the sandwich.

Of course, watch out when picking these. The leaves are the same as one other plant that is poisonous to eat. Fortunately, the garlic smell lets you know if its the right plant.

Right now wild garlic time comes to an end so it was pretty much the last moment to go and gather these.

Bro, my mother just made pesto out of wild garlic and it tastes f*cking amazing. Where'd you find that much wild garlic, if you don't mind me asking? I have looked everywhere and never found any. 😄

Its in Keila-Joa, a bit hard to find if you dont know where to look exactly. Have to follow a forest trail and near some water source. Red mark should be the right spot.
