When Gods and the god-like exist publicly in the world, the world looks to them for safety. Citizens may ignore, at cost, their responsibility to care for themselves in life and leave the toil of survival to those they erroneously worship.
Amazon released a new movie called the "Samaritan." I first heard of the film following a review of @trumpman's article entitled, The Samaritan Wasn't that Bad!, so I decided to check things out.
No Spoilers
There won't be any spoilers in this review. It was pretty fun, and I don't want to ruin it for anyone. I enjoyed trumpman's depiction of the film, which was one of the main reasons I decided to watch it.
The Hero
The storyline introduces Sylvester Stallon as the Samaritan. The Samaritan maintains a grizzly appearance in the movie. He looks like some of the people I served with in the military. Those guys, perhaps having started as idealistic people that wanted to serve their country, just got beat down by the system over decades.
The Samaritan lives his enjoyable life in solitude and appears disgruntled with the hand life dealt him. He keeps his dealings with people to an absolute minimum.
He works as a garbage handler, fixes up broken objects in his spare time, and sells them to a local pawn shop owner. The Samaritan is content to live his life as far away from other people as possible.
The Villain
The foundational villain of the film is Nemesis. Where the Samaritan fought to protect the city's people, Nemesis sought to attack those he felt were unworthy of society. The hero and antagonist, inevitably coming at odds with their philosophies, had chosen personal warfare to see their means justified. Like the Samaritan, those in the city worshipped Nemesis and his actions against the system.
Interestingly, the movie doesn't show much of the Samaritan or Nemesis. Instead, it offers a supporting cast and a city that has lived without the icons for decades. There was an epic battle between the two about 20 years from the movie's start. It shows a city under turmoil and a populace that has learned to exist without their heroes. Perhaps that's one of the main points of the film.
Supporting Cast
I didn't care much for the supporting cast. The story revolves around a boy living in poor conditions. The teen maintains his hope that the Samaritan will one day return. The kid is annoying, but considering my memories of my youth, I'd also find myself annoying. I'd probably smack myself several times if I could speak to my younger version.
The film's main antagonist was someone whose life situations forced him to grow up with only the ideals and actions of Nemesis, now long gone. The antagonist is similar to the boy, except that he is a career criminal. He has his own opinions about what Nemesis intended and seeks to accomplish, what he believes, was Nemesis' goal before he disappeared.
A Battle Between Good and Evil
A positive goal in the battle between good and evil shouldn't always be about the light winning over the dark. Sometimes, it needs to be about patience and understanding. Another point the film revealed is that we can deceive ourselves into seeing a reality that doesn't exist. Without patience and understanding
Don't get me wrong, however. The Samaritan isn't an Oscar winner. It won't change your life and doesn't bring you a new revelation about life. It's an entertaining movie, and I'm glad I got a chance to watch it. So, if you have some time available, give it a watch!

The Most Important Step
The most important step someone can take is the next step. The first step is easy. No one has a problem with a journey towards somewhere appealing. When life throws you an obstacle, however, the journey changes, and suddenly, the person moving forward will force themselves to halt and deal with the problems before them. Sure, that's understandable. You may even collapse from the burden. Yet, the road to a better place remains. Never forget it. Rise from your fallen faith and take the next step to a brighter day.

I think Sly owned the role too. I felt that the other characters just didn't meet the expectation. It was still a lot of fun to watch.

It was a fun watch. My only annoyance was watching the kid hanging out in a burning building. No sweating. No coughing. No shielding himself from the heat. Other than that, it had a decent story. Stallone did a good job.
Right?!?! I was like, "they should both be dead by this point"! In fact, they'd be out in about 30 seconds into the scene. Lol, it was a fun watch and decent story. Thank you for stopping by!
