Most people have lived or known of places such as the one described in this poem - The Orange Zone. Maybe some of us still do live under the invisible umbrella of subjugation, segregation, and discrimination.
Some types of exclusion are difficult to see or prove. It is just a sensation, a feeling of unfairness that does not go away, like a bad taste in the mouth. Nevertheless, it exists, and you can see its economic consequences on the least fortunate. In these places, the well-off and the poor find their differences unreconcilable.
The Orange Zone
There is a tear falling backward,
In a land not far above.
Where the truth is held together,
By the pieces of its lies,
Styling shades of such remembrance,
Under a hot April sun.
Near a graveyard for lost dreaming,
Where all love songs are reborn.
The shore’s breeze pushes kisses,
While the drone spies from above.
And the air blows on the fires,
Burning everyone that is poor.
While the tear keeps falling backward,
Under the great Orange zone.
And the faces on the clouds,
Flashing fearless thru a code,
Breed the life of segregation,
In this land not too far above.
And the skies flared with one color,
As the harvest raised is wrong,
While the few rule from the courts,
And the rest are snared to feed the zone.
Here the whales rest on beaches,
Where the dream still lives on,
Finding love from a distance,
But never too close.
There is a tear falling backward,

Where the truth stretches lies,
Seeking peace through compromise,
Only to be sacrificed.
And the air blows on the fires,
Burning everyone that is poor.
While the tear keeps falling backward,
Under the great Orange zone.
