I Turn Away

If we have no peace, it is because
we have forgotten we belong to each other.

― Mother Teresa

Can’t watch the news anymore—

The murders, the hatred;

Can’t bear to watch

Dying children in Yemen;

Politicians who care

More about votes than people,

Party slogans that take the place

Of human feelings.

“So, what do you do?” God asks

When we’re quietly talking.

“I turn away,” I say.

He nods, “I can’t do that.”

I figure if God bears our sins

And has to see them,

Why should I pretend

I’ve nothing to do with them?

He watches and weeps

While we act inhuman,

While I turn away

And refuse to view them.

I can't watch the news any more either...

I know there's pain in the world. The things I design and create have put a little bit of a dent in that, and so that's what I'll keep doing.

😄😇😄

@creatr

I like that sentiment, my friend. Thank you :)

The dehumanization of humanity prevails in these times, it is a painful reality with which we have to coexist. We need to be more sensitive to the situations you describe beautifully in these verses. God knows the deepest feelings in our hearts and knows who is not good and who is, and this is better because a good person will never do anything other than good. Beautiful poem, @johnjgeddes. Good night.

Thank you, @aurodivys - I agree wholeheartedly with your remarks

Nicely written. When i surf the net in the morning. I skipped tragic news once I see the headlines. I can't bear it. It's really too much

I know, but what the eye doesn't see the heart can't grieve...and the suffering goes on
