RE: Lekarze, księża i prawnicy. AI, algorytm sprawiedliwości? Doctors, priests and lawyers. AI, algorithm of justice? [POL/ENG]

in #polish8 months ago

My thoughts keep ricocheting around the three professions. Why have the base principles remained, on the surface level, unchanged? They stitch part of the essence of being a sentient human together - health, law, and belief.
The meeting may have been the first step towards open the doors to ai automation in regards to law and/or belief. It certainly did not shut the door, if I understand correctly.
Ai, at this point of time, in its best form is nothing more than a fancy language model. It can be used within these three professions, like you mentioned, on a very superficial level. However, ai is also very immature ATM. I mean, the more data is fed to it to create more robust algorithms, the more close to humanoid decision making it will get. Once the algorithm is educated enough to create at least one singular model that is on a 1:1 "thinking" level of a human, including adapting, learning, and making exceptions, only then can the fancy language model be compared to being humanoid.
But do we need that level of reliability on ai? Where does it end? What then becomes of human beings? An eating, shitting, reproducing organism with what to look forward to?

There is interesting video by David Shapiro on popular, centralized platform with videos. He speaks about post singularity sustainable lifestyles. I mean, whatever it's gonna be, AI is going to filter out true essence of humanity. I guess it's also about achieving post-work mindset and decoupling our activities from earning money. Then we will potentially be free to do whatever we choose. Among proposed activities there are: developing human interactions, friendships and families, spiritual search and development, practising art as a mean of selfexpression and sharing experience. I found it astonishing how deeply labor-oriented our current civilisation is.

This law, health and belief thing is interesting, very new thing for me. However the question that comes to my mind is should we really need intermediaries here? I mean could we potentially have easy and simple way to interact with state and others? (blockchain and network state) Having enough spare time generated by machines could we potentially reach more for spirituality and personal growth instead of relying on personal experiences of others? And there is health, which lack of I see as the state out of balance. Could relationship with healers be also transformed somehow? Together with less stress and healthier environment? I mean, transformation of the world might be much more profound. Even if these professions won't be eliminated, they might be completely reimagined.

Coming to these technicalities there is a lot of buzz about multiagent systems and multimodal AIs. In general there might be no need for "singular model that is on a 1:1 thinking level of a human". Ability to adapting, learning and making exceptions will come as a emergent property of such system built with various models interacting witch each-other.

Where does it ends? There is intersting short novel from 1909 "The Machine Stops" which envisions such future with great details, people are busy just with creating new ideas and Machine takes care of every aspect of their life. But there is a problem, Michine stops and nobody really knows how it operates. It only indicates, even the most optimistic future is not going to be a happy utopia. This might be a world of great personal responsibilities and completely new challanges.

It surely will free up more time for us to do what we wish.

I can totally see it bringing a lot of relief to the healthcare industry. We already use a lot of automation, at least in the countries I practiced. Just looking at what I experienced, a lot of tasks, both for myself and nurses under me, can be automated without eliminating any jobs. I can focus on diagnosing and prescribing, nurses can focus on tailored caretaking and following prescriptions, and everything else can be automated. As ths tech develops, diagnosing and prescribing can also be automated with Ai. Which should in turn result in healthcare industry focusing on research and development.
