The world we live in is messed up and unless we are putting our lives on the line against the status quo, we are actually perpetuating it.
Imagine our world is a large house and all the nations are members of an extended family. In this house the father takes it upon himself to feed on one of the other residents, killing him/her or at least gnawing off a limb or two. However this victim is never one of his close relatives. Always someone distant. Other relatives allow this to happen because at least it isn't one of them he is eating and they are also thriving, so why rock the boat?
However, isn't it just a matter of time before he turns on every one of his relatives? As a Canadian, I live in a country that stands by or even helps when the US decides to turn functional nations into some form of hell on earth or at least starve them into submission. This is usually in the name of democracy or at least regime change. Eventually, Canada, as the younger cousin of the US will also be eaten. We are just too complacent to see it because right now, "it isn't me".
