I truly hope that is a mistranslation. I do not see those people listed above as any of our bosses and you shouldn't either. They may be heavily staked in the project, but never see them as your boss. Perhaps you see them as your mentors? If they're your mentors or people you look up to, I get it.

Boss-someone who tells you what to do so you can get paid. Mentor-someone you look up to who gives you advice you want to greatly consider for making your own choices.

You can read this phrase here a lot. I stumbled upon it several times, maybe some kind of slang? Depends on age, I guess. But yeah, I find it also irritating to call someone a boss here, other than to joke around.

I'm guessing it is a cultural/translation thing...which if it is, no biggie...but they definitely have different meanings.

Yes, cultural differences I observe a lot here on the chain. If one takes it with humor, one may come to an understanding. Otherwise, those differences tend to create hostility, which otherwise could be seen as something enriching, using, of course, a friendly speech.
