The Friday Game

This is a game I played with my fourth graders. The stick man figures I drew myself a couple years ago. This is from sticking it to the man.

Our Fourth Grade students are learning the expression, "What day is it?" In order to practice the expression I made them find "Friday". One student was sent out of the room and at that time I chose three students to be "Friday". The other students would be any day they wanted from Saturday through Thursday.

The student that was outside enters the room. He or she will have 1 minute to find Friday by asking: "What day is it?" If they other student is Friday they will answer, "It's Friday." But the detective student will have to ask, "Are you sure?"

The student who was chosen to be Friday will answer, "Yes, I am." It's a classic game to play and kind of like heads up seven up. The kids liked playing and I sped up the game a lot by choosing more Fridays.

By the end of the game the students know what "Are you sure?" really meant they also had a chance to practice the days of the week in a fun way.

"What's in the bedroom?"

The week before this we learned the rooms of the house and items in the rooms. I asked the students in the beginning of the class a review question,

"What's in the bedroom?"

According to the textbook they are supposed to answer,

"There is a bed."

But these kids answered,

"There are socks."

So I asked,

"What's in the livingroom?"

These kids answered,

"There are socks."

I asked,

"What's in the kitchen?"

They answered,

"There are socks."

I asked,

What's in the bathroom?"

They answered,

There are socks,

It wasn't just two or three classes but most of the fourth grade answered, "There are socks." I guess a lot of people leave their socks laying around the house. As the cases of covid increase a lot of kids have to stay home for quarantine.

Some have a brother who is sick or a friend they had contact with. Half of the class is taking the class on Zoom and the other half of the class is at home. The kids at home showed me their camera to prove that their are socks in the bedroom.

From what I can tell a lot of people have to stay home but they still have to do everything they always did. On Monday I crawl our of bed and try to wake my kids up for school. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday it's basically the same thing. At 8 AM I'm off to work and the kids are just getting up.

But one thing is certain. When it comes to Saturday the kids will be up before me and try to wake me up to go out somewhere. If I don't get up then they will make me their playground.

I drew this sketch a couple years ago but things didn't change much.

Any suggestions about how to get out of this weekly routine?

Sort:

Same thing when someone says there is a test today. "There's a test today?" Another student "wait, there's a test today?" and another and another. Teacher is like "no there isn't a test today, look at the calendar." 5 more students then ask if there is a test today. Haha

I like that game !LOL

What code did the Vikings use for telegraphs?

Haha, the last sketch indeed represents the reality 😂 but just until a certain age of children. (...btw, I am crawling out of bed even on Friday) So when your kids become teenagers, they will not get up at 6 AM anymore on Saturday, be sure.

The games you explained are nice ones. How good you are one of the teachers that like to play with the students and teach through these activities. Btw, this post would perfectly fit the teachers lounge community.

Covid. I don't teach anymore online. When students had contact with someone with the thing, they just don't come that week for the lesson and later we try to fit them into some other group to make up the lesson... though, the list of those are pretty long until now 😂

Right,

Thank you @mipiano. I almost forgot about the teacher's lounge. I think I didn't post any community.

As for covid there is no time to make up lessons so the kids who are in quarantine can see the class on Zoom. Maybe it could feel like our class is being spied on, but mostly the kids are happy even if they can contact their friends online. Usually there are five or six students online and 20 students in the classroom.

The kids knows that they do not have to learn anything on Saturday is only playing the have to do, so they will love it

That's right. Kids will be kids and Saturday is their day to play. Well... maybe I will order a !PIZZA

What day is it?
It's Friday! And I'm still so stressed out.

Playing games is the best way to teach, it'll be a lot harder for them to forget such lessons. I wished we applied such methods over here, over here it's just to rigid and bombarding. A child hardly gets the chance to enjoy schooling.

I love the first sketch as well as the last ones. You're pretty amazing at everything, is there something you cannot do @mineopoly ?

It's typical for the kids to be enthusiastic on a Saturday because there's no reason to go to school!. Hehe, it's going to be weekend vibes.

Thanks for sharing ❤️

I don't like weeks that roll into weeks. This blog challenged me to do things I normally wouldn't do like make silly cartoons, make puppets, sing and tell jokes. I'm really glad and blessed I found this outlet. I'm even more happy when I meet people like you with unlimited potential. !LUV !PIZZA

Lol, now you're doing a lot of the things you never hoped to be doing, it's a great way to discover Yourself and it's great you did that pretty well.

I'm even more happy when I meet people like you with unlimited potential.

Same goes here my dear friend @mineopoly , you're helping me find myself and I'm grateful

What did the doctor say about the tall person in a rush to see him?
I wish you were a little patient.

Haha love the story about the socks everywhere. Fellow teacher here and we also have lots of kids at home...

Wow,

I don't know what I would do if I had to come home to a lot of kids. I have two and that is enough. More power to you .

I couldn't stop laughing at the last sketch here. It is so funny how the mind of kids work.

I'm pretty bad at handling kids lol. Maybe you should make Out a routine that they must practice every Saturday morning before any other thing.. Perhaps they will be occupied on Saturday morning and let you rest a bit.

Thanks @doziekash,

The youngest is very special and needs supervision. I have white paper two meters square. I put it down and give him some crayons. That helps for a while.... but he really needs to run around and sweat and then he is ok.

Love the games...

Don't know how to get out this routine. But already told me to face Mondays with better eyes. New week new possibilities.

What day it is?!
Its monday! Lets create something awesome this week...

It's hard after a great weekend. I'm always kind tired.

But i try...

This Monday was better than usual. I got them off the TV and games Sunday night and got the kids in bed. I hope you have a great week.

!PIZZA
