RE: Tokenizing The Internet With Hive - HiveTips, HivePatron & MyAltWallet (Proposal #128)

in #proposal5 years ago

I really like this idea, though I think it could be improved.

This idea rests on a simple assumption, at it's core.

That assumption is people that want to tip creators.

Now, this is a great idea. people do want to help others

But this assumptions lies on assumptions

  • People have enough hive to tip (Big One)
  • People would like to show their appreciation in a tip (Big Two)
  • People would rather show their appreciation in this particular way so much, that they don't feel satisfied with native feedback mechanisms (likes, RT, etc) and this drive is so much that they will take the action to install a browser plugin to send their assets to show this appreciation

Why do I think these assumptions are important to consider?

I think that the amount of people who want to tip hive is, max, 2,000-3000. Out of these, I think only about 300-500 will actually be monthly tippers.

Why do I think that?

It's an estimate, it could be wrong!!

For me, this whole idea of tipping by sending your money to another is old hat. It's a step BACKWARD from the Hive core model.

What is a step forward??

The thing that excites me most about Hive, as well as the web 4 platforms I am working to develop is that they all have one commonality ->

The everyday user doesn't have to spend their money to help another

For me, this is an idealogical requirement for progress.

I don't see any real progress here. I think you did a WONDERFUL job on this proposal, except explaining the core benefit. Other than a small boost to the Hive community through the advertising plan (which I think is a great plan) I don't think that this will provide much value to the hive community.

Also, I do take issue with this

Being able to tip a person with a Hive account, for anything on the internet, is something that needs no added explanation.

Well, I think it does need an explanation. Mainly for this question: If we can already tip without spending money (Upvotes) what is the added value here? (answerable) and also this one: Does each creator on Youtube / Twitter etc need to associate this account with their Hive account through verification to receive Hive?

Wouldn't it make more value to just make a customizable autogenerated post to Hive from these services. Storing a MD template in the browser plugin that can post to any template the user wishes? This puts more original content on the Hive blockchain, and people can "Tip" with out spending their money....

You could (maybe) even use the youtube API to prepend a message to the description of the video linking to the post on Hive.

This would require action on the creator, not the tipper, but in my mind, that makes more sense, as the creator is then also directing the tipper to their real Hive post, where the tipper can TIP EASILY on peakd, or upvote, a more advanced form of tipping.

In summary, I think that this will provide a small boost to the hive community, and also benefit 300-500 people per month who may use the service. It's not my money, so I do support this project. But I think it's a good point to stop and reflect on the ideas that brought us here, and work together to take steps forward not back. This is not a step forward. It's a dance in the place we are standing to try to attract attention and benefit the few, while largely ignoring the group that we should be focusing on, those who aren't yet on Hive, or just joined.

I hope I'm wrong and it turns out to be a huge benefit to everyone!!

Thanks for listening @fullalt

@jackmiller here.

After discussing it with our lovely advisor on "how to word things effectively", the sentence at question has been fixed.

Thanks for pointing it out to us.

Being a musician myself, I would be curious to see 'Purple'. Choon floundered on us, Musiccoin - well - that crapped I'd say too and DSound? I can't get anything to work on that. So put me on your list to keep informed about it ;)

Hey @enginewitty,

We have an email signup at the bottom of our website: https://currentxchange.com/

Purple was supposed to be a SMT, but that didn't work out!! Over the last year, I have been re-thinking the whole economics, and came up with a general Time Token concept that I plan to integrate into cXc Music in the next update.

It's a similar concept, with Sol and Blue, except we don't need the third token (purple) at all, as now Sol and Blue are both on blockchain.

I have a meeting later today with Civic to see about using their verification system on our site, which would solve the biggest roadblock to making this real!! Without verification, time tokens won't work, as it's too easy to collect to many pretending to be 100 different people.

Rest assured, cXc Music isn't going anywhere!!! We are almost at 2 years, and plan for many more.

Stoked you are stoked!!

Ya I saw, I had several plans with those little buggers too. Maybe the wHIVE and NFTs will make things a little more appealing. I will mosey on over and check out the site and opt-in :)

Yes I am very excited for NFTs growing up on Hive also!

Happy to have you following our project!
