Time is an illusion - All That Matters Is This Present Moment

Bill Keane said and I quote:- “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery and today is a gift – that is why it’s called the present”

The above saying perfectly nails the whole point ‘Life is about living in the present moment’ and being in the ‘Now’. If you ever want to live life to the fullest, the best way is to be in the present moment. The only way to truly explore and enjoy this, is by not thinking about past and worry about the future.

This doesn’t mean that you should ignore the past and be carefree about the future at all. Life is a journey where you keep on learning and improve constantly till you breathe. This is the ultimate way of living. To accomplish this, one needs to use the experience (both positive and negative) gathered from his past and consume it as tonic to boost his present. This will invariably help in having a successfully and meaningful future.

Embracing the present will give you abundant joy and remove all the worries, struggle and pain. This is because, once you honor the present it will imbibe qualities such as moment awareness, value of time, sense of quality in all the actions you do. Due to this, the mind and body will be engulfed with fullness and contentment making the present fulfilled.

Past is not always bad, in contrary it’s very important to understand the past but not dwell in it. Past is your best teacher and if you are able to learn from the mistakes in past rather than blaming, there is no limit to your growth in life.
‘Power of Now’ is a very defining phrase. If it’s repeated few times, you’ll get a sense of self-confidence and sudden flow of will power flowing through your body. Change is the only constant in life. So whatever you do in the present moment will bring out the change you want in the future. The predicted future you yearn for will only come to reality if we are ready to undergo the change in present. The things you do in the ‘Now’ will be the layout for your future.

To convey this message more easily, take an example where a person whose is a teacher now would have dreamt of being a cricket player in his childhood. So here the projected future by this person and the actual future is different which is due to his lack of action during his childhood to utilize the present moment.

If we think what do we do everyday? The Answer will be making plans, trying to complete our to-do lists. We are so busy rushing towards the future, as if it is more exciting than present moment, that we don't actually experience our lives.

Focusing on the present and making it better each day even by 0.1% will lead you to have a flourishing future. On the opposite, if the present moment is wasted by just predicting the future and not doing any action will lead to a bleak and fruitless future. However, this should not be confused with having future goals. Future goals are important and in fact it should be your driving force to ‘Live in Present’ rather than just make thinking about the future. It should also act as a catalyst for a bright future.

So, the importance of present moment will educate you to live consciously, to fully experience life and without redundant thought and distraction.

Eckhart Tolle, author of "The Power of Now" says "Most people treat the present moment as if it were an obstacle that they need to overcome. Since the present moment is life itself, it is an insane way to live."
