Schizophrenia, the mental illness that affects your cognition

in #psychology6 years ago

Hello everyone, today I come to bring you a post about a disease that has affected many people around the world, I do this to inform you nothing else, my intention is not to scare you or anything like that is to clarify any doubts you have about this issue and inform you, without more than say let's start.

What is Schizophrenia?

It is a mental illness that affects 1% of the population and causes the person to become detached from reality and have hallucinations.

How does it affect us?

We often see that this problem affects the families with whom it occurs, but there is no need to fear because the risk of a person who has schizophrenia passing it on to their children is very low, it all depends on the family histories of the person with whom the children marry and whether the consanguinity is closer.

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms vary depending on the person who suffers from it but among the most common are the following:

  • Social isolation.

  • Disorganized behavior.

  • Self-mutilation.

  • Cognitive disorders.

  • Belief that an event

  • Amnesia.

  • Hallucination.

  • Hearing voices.

  • Paranoia.

  • Delusional persecution.

Types of schizophrenia:

  • Paranoid type: This is where the feeling of persecution, delusions of grandeur and auditory hallucinations predominate.

  • Disorganized or hebephrenic type: In which disordered speech and behavior stand out for no apparent reason.

  • Catatonic Type: It has important psychomotor alterations such as waxy flexibility/rigidity.

  • Undifferentiated type: It is when there are psychotic outbreaks but they do not meet the characteristics of the previous ones.

  • Residual type: It is when there are positive symptoms but of low intensity.

Cure or treatment:

Currently it is a disease without cure but there are treatments that contain the hallucinations but in turn decreases brain capacity, in addition to pharmacological treatment is necessary for the person to attend therapy regularly. It is very important to maintain the treatment because if it is stopped or stopped the patient is at risk of relapse.

Conclusion:

A disease that makes us question our reality and the way we see the world may sound crazy, but that in itself is schizophrenia, the disease that makes us delirious and creates a fantasy so real that we convince our whole being that they exist but in the end it is not true, Although this affects families because it implies a big change for everyone since the patient needs to have constant observation and often this destroys the family because the disease can be dangerous not only for the patient but also for people close to him/her, even so there are also cases of people who have managed to cope with this disease with their families, in the end everything depends on how the person decides to take the disease. I hope you liked my post, don't forget to vote and leave your comment until next time.

It's good to keep theses conditions in the forefront to increase understanding and help reduce the stigma of mental illness. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome, I know you're all terrified of disease, but I think understanding it is a big step in helping those who have it.

How true!
