Qustodian votebank allowances and other updates

in #qurator6 years ago

Hi everybody, Qustodian here.

Votebank empty messages

Many have been commenting that they cannot get a daily vote recently. The reason is that the voting power has been draining faster than normal recently to the point it dropped so low that the votebank gets refilled by 0 SBD instead of the normal 0.2 - 0.3 SBD daily.

To see the voting power targeting formula you can go to this post.

Negative votingbank balances

There has also been some negative voting bank balances. The reason for this is also the voting power formula, when the voting power dropped below 70 the equation produces negative values and credited people with a negative voting bank balance instead of 0.
This is not the intended behaviour and will need a change.

User expectations

I have noticed that there is an expectation that everyone should get an upvote daily at the minimum. The votebank was never intended to work in that way, but I will honour the expectation by implementing a minimum increase in votebanks daily.

Voting power targeting

The initial reason for targeting a relatively high voting power was to keep the upvotes at a reasonable size. I (the bot) has grown much faster than expected and this means a change to voting power targeting. There will be some initial changes to alleviate the current situation with further changes pending community input.

Low SP gains

In the recent high SBD environment, Steemit currently provides very poor STEEM power payouts. This is due to their feed price stating 1 STEEM = 3 SBD approx, while the opposite is true, 1 SBD = 3 STEEM. This skews the value of SBD to be around 6 - 9 times more valuable than STEEM. Given the current environment I will be switching the multiplier to 2.65 instead of 2.5. In this way you should get all of your SBD back used for the upvote.

Future changes

  • Changing the voting power formula to allow a drop to 50% at lowest before hitting minimum upvotes
  • Implementing a minimum upvote
  • Returning the modifier to 2.65 instead of 2.5 post 1 January
  • I have limited access to a computer and will only be able to implement the changes after new year.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding,
    Qustodian

Thanks, for the update!!! I believe that everyone using this bot like its upvotes. So maybe those who can spare a bit of voting power could delegate some? I do not have much power, but have just delegated you 50 sp, if we all help we can do it :-)

A great new year to you all !!!

Thanks. I thought our friendly qusto-bot was acting strange but I liked the idea. Happy new year. I will try qustodian again then. Peace.

Well it looks like I may have made things worse. I was going to try to reconfigure my delegation to half while this gets sorted out, but I didn't know about the 1 week power down and seem to have screwed things up in general for myself instead. My bad >_<

I have done the same, the week waiting period is quite annoying

Well in dollar terms it's nothing to trip over like it's going to ruin my life. Just shucks, I feel bad if it's currently aggravating an already complicated situation (since I think I was like the third or fourth biggest delegate to qustodian).

It isn't too bad, thanks for the consideration. Once you cap the minimum value at 0 or more, the problem goes away. :)

So if I changed the value to 0 I would be able to delegate again immediately? The 0 or more confuses me (I mean I am at more, at 100ish delegated to qustodian right now, no idea how to tell more specifically)

The problem happened in the first place, I believe, when I tried to change the delegation from 1000 to 100. I can no longer remember if I tried to go to 0 in between, but I think maybe? Honestly I just wish I could follow where my delegation is at, it is great to be able to do but unfortunate not to be able to follow clearly.

You have to wait a week for any reductions in delegation. So if you reduce from 1000 to 500, you wait a week for that 500

Yup thank you that's what it was ; I tried reducing while I decided on the new amount and then it was all locked up, but what was confusing was I was able to do a slight amount more than made sense like that (like 50 extra steem..it's very odd)

It is confusing. Every time you delegate you need to specify how much in total. So if you want tot go from 1000 to 0, you specify 0. From 1000 to 1100, you specify 1100. Not intuitive. It may be worth to build something that shows current delegations.

With the 0, I meant to solve the negative votebank values. It was a simple fix, I was just struggling to get computer time

Thanks for update, be sure to have a Happy New Year
