A Wife Who Earns 750k Salary and A Husband Who Earns 70k, Who Should Resign?

in #relationship6 years ago (edited)

Someone once mentioned how his pastor told a story of a couple in Nigeria; the husband lives in Lagos and earns 70,000 Naira as salary and the wife works in Kaduna state and earns 750,000 Naira. One of them needs to quit the job and then relocate so they can be together as a family. So the pastor asks the congregation (men specifically) who should resign. Most of the men believed that the woman should resign because, according to them, the man is the head of the family and it is his responsibility to fend for the home. While others were of the opinion that since the wife earns more, the husband should quit his job and relocate.

Let me address this issue as I deem fit. The men who want the wife to relocate are doing so because;

  • They are misogynist in nature
  • She is a woman
  • They believe as the wife, she is beneath them
  • They are ruled by their ego, hence they should be the sole provider of the home.

All these, in short, mean that they lack common sense. If a man is good at making wise financial decisions, he will realise, in this instance, that his wife earns x10 of what he earns, and she is in a better position to provide for the family (financially) more than he is.

All what they need to do, is to sit together and then strategize on how to empower the husband (either by getting him a job or setting up a business for him) since he is losing his job for the sake of his family. If they are both wise and mature, the man would tuck his ego in his pockets, the wife will throw pride away, and this would cause no rift between them. They ought to realize that 750,000 Naira is quite enough to sustain them while the man sources for a better means of making money.

Well, this is just my opinion. What do you think? If you are the man, will you let your wife quit her job? If you are the woman, will you quit your job if your man says so? Please write a comment, I want to know your thoughts.

All I see is figures honey! I'm going to quit because guap matters more to me. Fuck male ego

If they want pride go be a rapper

I am a woman but nobody can judge from very far. of course from a very practical point of view it does not look that the lady in your illustration should leave her job.

I think these things better should be discussed much before you decide to get married. But for sure if both of them feeling that either of them sacrificing something and they won't get an equivalent opportunity then better they should stick to their own jobs. Because there is no point in fighting every day. It's better to have a no family life instead of a spoiled one.

You're absolutely correct. I feel both of them shouldn't really think about themselves individually, but they should consider what is good for the family. Still, they need to make wise financial decisions. Thank you for contributing.

I know that kind of attitude very well.
But honestly, we are living in a different age. For me, there is not a problem if the women are the part who brings in the money. In my opinion, it would be wrong to consist that the men have to do the job. Especially when the women are earning more. For me, the most important thing should be that both have to agree with their choices and go the way together.

If we are talking about gender equality this is the kind of shit stupid religious instinctive people do

Exactly what I believe too. This case shouldn't be about ego, it should be about what's good for the whole family - financially and any other wise.
