Happy New Year from the Chiang Mai Hash

in #running3 years ago

It's been a crazy year for all of us in the Hash and basically everyone in the world. Where do we go from here? We don't know! But we are going to do our best to make sure that we have fun doing it with good friends and plenty of beer.

The other Hash House Harriers chapters in Thailand have experienced basically the exact same drop in membership due to the "snow birds" not being able to get in to the country and also that some members went home for the holidays and it could be some time before they are able to get back in. There is some international travel being allowed into the country but it comes with a multiple-thousand dollar mandatory quarantine at a hotel for 2 weeks. As it stands now, there is not way around this and recently it was revealed by the Thai government that even getting the vaccine will not allow for any sort of of fast-track entry.

Therefore, we have been joining forces a bit with the other major Hashes in the country.

A few days ago our brothers and sisters from Phuket decided to join us on a Bunny Hash, which has become a much more active chapter in our kennel now that we haev a much higher ratio of women to men than we normally would... and i suppose that isn't a bad thing for the single fellas.

Men are normally forbidden from attending Bunny Hashes but since there are so few of us left here we make an exception until Covid is behind us. Also, there is almost a bit too much sexy going on in the at picture above. So much beauty!

Our numbers basically doubled for this event and I would say that it reached the "sweet spot" as far as attendance is concerned. I have been to hashes that have multiple hundreds of people at them and honestly, that is too many. The circles are chaos and you never really get a chance to meet anyone when there are that many people around. With around the 40-50 that we had in attendance for this Bunny Hash, I feel as though that is the perfect amount of people for one event.

We found out from our Phuket brethren that they are also living the dream like we are compared to the global situation in that they have very little in the way of restrictions although we were informed they do have temperature checkpoints on the highway entering or leaving the island. I've always found this to be a bit bizarre since according to what I have seen an infected person, most of the time, doesn't have a temperature or any other symptoms.

We have been invited to participate in their Hash events down in Phuket, and I for one fully intend to take advantage of this, especially in a month or so when our annual worst air pollution in the world kicks in as it always does.

We are making the best of a bad situation and when we talk with one another it is very evident from the stories we hear from abroad that we are truly in a great situation compared to other parts of the world. I guess you could say we are all thankful for that. Here's to a great 2021 everyone!
