The annual "Ballbreaker" run is coming in February

in #running2 years ago

For Hashers, this event is done annually around the world and the crude name simply indicates that this run is significantly further than any other event we do in a year. Most of our runs are between 5 an 8 km, but the Ballbreaker is a half-marathon and takes many hours for our old bones to complete.

This is not our logo, because it hasn't been determined what ours will be this year. We didn't get to have a Ballbreaker last year since Thailand was locked down pretty hard and almost all of our members had left the country for various reasons. This year we hope to have a reasonable turnout, but we are very unlikely to have any international visitors for visa and Covid reasons.

Here is our shirt from 2020 though.

Most of the people that turn up for this event don't actually complete the whole thing because 25km is a lot to ask of our members since the average age of our group is 107 and basically everyone is overweight. Therefore we have 3 bailout point for all runners to get a ride back to camp at around 8km intervals. The ultimate prize is to make it all the way through, but there is more to it than that. For top honors, participants must not only complete the full 25km, but they must also drink an entire can of beer at every safety stop. Do we realize that this is exceptionally stupid and unsafe? Of course we do and this is why we carry mobile phones. So far no one has had to be airlifted out from the events.

By participating in the event you also get your Hash name on the back of the commemorative shirt, which is quite an honor indeed. You'll notice that most of our names are rather irreverent and this is done on purpose in Chiang Mai. Other Hashes have more "family-friendly" names but we pride ourselves on our brashness.

So if you would like to come and join us this is not an invitational, anyone can join but you need to let us know if you are interested beforehand. It would be very helpful if you are actually in Chiang Mai or in the area if you want to do so. You can contact us and get full information about the details of the event which takes place on the 10th of February HERE

From 8km to 25km that is indeed a ballbreaker.

i don't think any of us run it all :) I jog quite a lot of it but run? nah, not in this heat.
