I'm just back from a fun weekend in Bath for a family event. Some of us stayed at the Youth Hostel. It's functional, but we just needed somewhere to sleep and they did a good breakfast too. If you've not been to Bath you may not know that the town is surrounded by hills and this place is up one of these. It's a serious climb to walk up there from the centre.
This morning I went for a run whilst the family were still in bad. I chose to head uphill to start with. That took me up to the university and a golf course that featured a castle wall.
I stayed up the top for a while, which took me across some fields, but I eventually headed down when I decided I needed to get back. I found a road, but had to check the map to see where I was. The views were great, but the people in balloon ad it even better than me. Note the wall of cloud that spread across the sky.
There are some amazing houses in the town, but up on the hill were some huge ones that show the wealth that was there. People have come to Bath for the 'healing waters' for millennia. The Roman baths in town are spectacular. A lot of the building came in the 18th and 19th centuries when it was a popular resort for the rich. It was part of the canal network and that is still used. I should perhaps have just run along the canal as that is guaranteed to to be flat, but I had to go and tackle the hills.
The final stretch took me past a large new housing estate and brought me out down the hill from the hostel, so I had to climb the last part. I walked some of that. The pace was nothing special as I was taking it easy and struggling on the hills. I may have done even more climbing that I did in Edinburgh recently. Over 1200m in under 8km! I was ready for a shower and breakfast when I got back.
We've been to Bath before and may well return as I have family there. I may even run again there. For now I have my 10km race next weekend. I'll do one more set of intervals before that. I'm just out to enjoy it.

It looks like the perfect place for a fairy tale! I love the architecture f the first building, here we don't have something similar! Also the castle wall make me think about a fairy tale! Ok, maybe this morning I wake up with a romantic mood ^_^
It looks like the rich people of 200 years ago built their own castles there. It's a very pretty city. I think you would enjoy it
Awesome pictures! It looks like a really beautiful place to visit. I don't know if I could manage walking with all of those hills let alone run. That is pretty crazy. The castle wall is probably my favorite picture. Is it just for show or was there really a castle there at one time?
I suspect it's more modern than it looks. There were some seriously wealthy people there who could afford such novelties
I wondered, because the upper part of it looked in pretty good shape, but the foundation part of it looked like it could have been original.
It's weird, Bath is one of those places that I have been through hundreds of times over the years. Back in the day when I used to go to Glastonbury every year and more recently seeing friends in Bristol.
However I have never stopped there and actually visited, some day, some day . . .

I'd say it's one of the best looking towns I've seen in the UK. Some interesting history.
What a beautiful run. I love Bath, so beautiful and picturesque, but the idea of "healing waters" reminds me of "The Road to Wellville," the movie in which Anthony Hopkins' Dr Kellogg, the breakfast cereal inventor, offers bogus healing waters to fools easily parted from their money lol.
Anyway, it's good to see you running in new terrain that offers added visual stimulation you don't get at home. Love the balloon. :)
Knowing you even I could have predicted that action
I love Bath and hope to get there again on my next UK visit. I of course always dream of Jane Austen when there. I'd love to be there when the Jane Austen society is doing a reenactment some time.

That is a long run. Never been there but it looks like a cool place to go and relax for a couple of days.

They have quite a lot going on there. Reminds me a bit of Cambridge. It's a long drive there for us, but we had a really good time.
That is great news. Glad to hear that all went well 😀

No need to be a masochist to run well... but a bit of pain could make you stronger. ;)

I'm not showing this to @bingbabe as I will get earache. 'Lets go to Bath'.. its one of those places on her hit list.. but then again, most places in the world are.
That castle entrance is something isn't it?
I'm not sure if there is more of the castle or if it's even that old. We didn't do the sights this time as we were busy with family stuff. It is well worth a visit. I may even do another post about it.
@steevc I am sure you enjoyed the weekend . I am also back after a long time as my health was not fine. Glad to be back with you all.
Good way to start the day!
