The coffin which was tagged empty recently has been declared to contain about 10% of body remains.

Indications from the coffin parts showed that it belonged to Mer-Neith-it-es, according to hieroglyphs.

The occupant who was a woman happened to be a noblewoman who served the Mistress of the Temple of Sekhmet.

The sarcophagus dates back to the 26th Dynasty, circa 664-525 BC.

It was acquired in the 1860s in Egypt by a former chancellor of Sydney University, Charles Nicholson which has since been instated at the University's museum in his name.
