In Hubei, China, a team of paleontologists has made a discovery that sounds like it's straight out of a movie—three dinosaur eggs that somehow survived for approximately 70 million years. While the nest was discovered last year, scientists have just acknowledged its strong heavyweight stature.

Of 31 eggs, there were three eggs that were in perfect condition. Minerals also crystallized over time and preserved the eggs within a membrane nobody ever had seen in the region. Researchers believe the eggs were in proximity to a river that flooded, then they became buried in mud and minerals. Essentially, that mix sealed the eggs away in time. The eggshells are thick (up to two centimeters), and the eggs measure at roughly 15 centimeters long.

They are dated from the Cretaceous period, when dinosaurs still were in control of the world. This is one of those discoveries that gives you pause and quickly comes to the realization of how little we actually know about what is buried under our feet—and how much the Earth still has to say, if we only were to pay attention.

What do you mean with "in perfect condition"? I would understand as "perfect" that you can e.g. extract a 100% complete set of DNA. I can´t imagine that is possible after 70mio years.

It means that their original shapes have remained almost intact over time. This is very rare, as fossils often become deformed or shattered due to geological forces over the millennia.
