I came across some photographs I took on a 14-mile hike in Mt. Tamaplais State Park in California and I thought I would share this lovely spider web. Here are some interesting facts about spiders and the webs they weave.
Webs contain a specific design and some spiders decorate with extra silk designs called stabilimenta. Spider webs are not always created for function but to be seen.
Webs are designed to attract their prey. I guess if the spider who was created the web featured above was big, he might have caught me because I found it very beautiful.
The light that reflects off of spider webs is to attract prey that typically have visual perception in UV wavelength light. The web decoration may also contain a resemblance of vegetation gaps where insects are prone to fly.
Spider webs not only attract prey but may also attract predators. If you see exoskeletons and egg sacs hanging in a spider web (I think I see one in the photo above), it could have been left there on purpose to camouflage.
Most insects caught by spiders are small in size and it is on the rare but most desired prey that is larger than the spider that is caught in the web.
Spiders replace their web every day but this costs the spider a lot of energy. If a large prey is caught this is worth all the energy spent in creating the web.
I hope you liked these fun facts about spiders and the webs that they weave.

I know right! The only thing in the web was the skin as mentioned in the post. It was probably hiding off to the side and ready to grab me !! 😣
Looking through and beyond the web, it looks like an amazing forest @eaglespirit. 🦋
Thank you for your comment and look see at my post @allyinspirit!
The forests in California, especially in the north are amazing. I think you posted on my GG bridge post so you’ve been there, you know. :)
This web was certainly worth being drawn into, it wasn’t super shiny too and I love shiny! xx 🦅
