The Actual State of our Space Program

in #science4 years ago (edited)

Remember what we were taught about science in the government schools? In general, we were taught that:

• The universe began in some sort of an inexplicable “Big Bang(TM)”, around 17 billion years ago.
• Most if not all of everything that goes on in that universe is explained by gravity, with electromagnetic forces playing little if any role.
• Our own solar system formed up from swirling dust around 4 billion years ago.
• Our system has looked pretty much as it does now for most of that time.
• Life on our world has arisen via random processes (evolution) over giant spans of time.
• The general history of our planet involves slow and uniform processes.
• The stories about major catastrophes you read in ancient literature are fairytales.
• Space and time are deformable.
• Albert Einstein was the smartest man who ever lived.

Now, in real life, it turns out that every bit of that is a bunch of BS.

NASA's verion of that says that our manned space programs stopped in 1976 and that we need to reconstruct the 1976 technology to get back to the moon and then Mars which, of course is a dead world in need of terraforming.

That also turns out to be bullshit.

Two items in the news recently...

“ The US government approved a patent for a spacecraft that uses anti-gravity (“repulsive gravity”), mass reduction and non-conventional (non-explosive combustion) propulsion. This form of propulsion possibly means no flames or explosions, but perhaps near-silent electromagnetic field propulsion.”

And then..... You have to start by understanding that Mars is very far from being a dead world. NASA/JPL images over the past few years have consistently shown indigenous humans and small animals entirely similar to those seen on Earth, particularly the image of the little ground squirrel which went viral on Google and Youtube a few years ago and which can be seen just searching on "squirrel on mars":

The most interesting image to show up on the Facebook Mars-image groups lately appears to show a Martian version of a lemur or something closely related to that.

Those are huge gigapan images made for panning and zooming and comprised of multiple rover strip images stitched together along the edges. The main item of interest with very minimal enhancement, just color levels auto-adjusted and a once-over with a global unsharp-mask filter:

Like lemurs and tarsiers, this creatures appears to be a leftover from the darkish "Purple Dawn" age which Troy McLachlan describes:

The creature has the same huge reflective eyes:

Other than that, the areas in the gigapan image shows numerous straight lines and corners and other indications that what you are seeing is ruins and rubble, and not just rocks.
