Sugar in space

in #science8 years ago

Not so long ago, astronomers made a "sweet discovery": the simplest sugar molecules float in the gases around the stars located 400 light years from us, which suggests that other planets may also have life. Although in itself this discovery, made in August, of course, proves nothing.

Molecules rich in carbon are the "building blocks" of life. Now it turned out that they could be present in the stellar dust even before the planets began to form. In this case, the word "sugar" is used by scientists to refer to organic molecules known as carbohydrates, which consist of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
