The first prediction of a solar Eclipse

One of the first things people learned about the sky was that the heavens follow the pattern. The ability to predict where planets can be, appeared long before people even knew that planets were of themselves. Perhaps, one of the most impressive predictions was still the predictions of solar eclipses. NASA knows when every solar eclipse will occur, 3000 years ahead.

The first prediction in history of a solar eclipse belongs to Thales of Miletus in 585 BC. e. The Greek historian Herodotus wrote that the eclipse of Thales coincided with the time of the battle of the two empires in place of modern Turkey. The eclipse led to the fact that the soldiers laid down their arms and signed a peace treaty, thus ending the 15-year war. Unfortunately, more astronomical events on international conflicts have no effect.
