This is the second contest hosted by @upmewhale and the topic is
Climate change/Global warming
Below is my entry to the contest.

What's climate change?
According to Wikipedia, climate change occurs when changes in Earth's climate system result in new weather patterns that remain in place for an extended period of time. This length of time can be as short as a few decades to as long as millions of years. source
For global warming, it can be seen as the consequences of human activities from industrial revolution.
These terms are used interchangeably.
What does it mean to you?
Climate change/global warming means a lot to me and my community as it has impacted so many negative effects for example, we now have increased temperature, flood during the rainy season, etc.
Africa as one of the poorest continent on Earth is now experiencing an increase in temperature which is higher than the global mean. Some regions in Africa (example, Nigeria) are projected to experience an increase in hot or even hotter nights as well as longer and more random heat waves.
Every bit of additional global warming adds greater risk for us in Nigeria.
With increase in global warming, we'll have more flood, drought, desertification, heat waves, etc.
This causes more losses in the farm which could lead to food insecurity and finally, survival of the fittest.
To what degree is it an instrument of certain political agendas?
As global warming is used to refer to the concentration of greenhouse gases such as Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide in the atmosphere attributes mainly to human activities, debates in the causes and consequences have risen to political agendas such as pointing accusing fingers on other world leaders for causing the changes, using the term for political campaigns and priding for achieving the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
But in general, are politicians not the causes of this climate change?
They blame the industries for flood and other related happenings but are cruising petrol-driven cars, electric light and other heavy appliances that consumes lots of energy.
How can we manage/solve it?
As I said earlier, carbon dioxide is one of the major contributors of global warming (when it's being released from burning of oil, coal and other fossil fuels for energy). We can solve this by using materials that emit little or less of these gases. It will go a long way in reducing the rate of climate change.
We can change the source of energy (from petro and its related materials) to other renewable energy source such as wind, solar, hydro.
We can use energy-efficient appliances. I felt happy when I saw on TV a car that uses electricity, a refrigerator that has high power saver capacity, solar radios and power banks.
We can also reduce water waste even though waste water are recyclable, eat the food we buy (don't waste foods).
What theories and data do you believe and which not?
I do believe that increased release of carbon dioxide is the major cause of global warning and climate change.
I do not believe in blaming developed countries for their high rate of gas emissions because underdeveloped countries do benefit from them ( in terms of import of processed foods and export of raw materials).
What are the main technologies and countries responsible for it
Like I said above, I'll not blame some countries that are responsible but I'll not hesitate in pointing fingers on countries responsible for this global warming and the technologies as well.
According to the recent analysis published on Wikipedia last year, these countries below were listed according to the level of greenhouse gas emissions.
- China
- United States of America
- European Union (including United kingdom)
- India
- Russia
Some of the technologies responsible are those that emit high rate of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, perfluorocarbons, hydrofluoricarbon and sulfur hexafluoride.
This is my opinion for the contest Climate change/Global warming.

I would say however that the climate change agenda is nothing more than another in a long line of distractions. The goal was tax carbon and promote electric cars (which need to be charged for 8hrs to get 279 miles running time), solar panels on homes (which is only 20% efficient depending on South facing properties and have toxic by-products during and after production) and wind/solar farms which assist in the monopolising of the FREE-ENERGY industry i.e. climate change is not a myth, but a natural product of the Earth going through time, with all the changes that we have no control over, and never will, determining how things will eventuate.
This does not discount, however, the affects from solar minimums, solar maximums, water vapour being the most abundant greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, CO2 being a cooling gas - not a warming gas, the oceans and seas holding up to 50% of all CO2 on the planet, Antarctic and Artic ice caps, volcanic eruptions, the North Atlantic Gulf stream, tech-tonic plate movement i.e. continental drift, the Sun's expansion from a Yellow Dwarf to a Red Dwarf and blue-green algae and oxygen. For example, geological features are warming Earth’s oceans and causing El Nino’s and La Nina’s. Warmed seawater is not capable of holding as much CO2 as cold water. So, the geologically warming of seawater indirectly leads to a large amount of CO2 being released from oceans and emitted into the atmosphere. Recent research shows that seafloor geological features also directly emit large amounts of CO2 into our oceans and atmosphere.
In summary, the volume of volcanic CO2 being emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere has not been accurately assessed. Numerous research studies and articles conducted/written by qualified scientists concur with this contention (see here, here, and here). In a geological timeframe, Earth has gone through many periods of increased volcanism. These volcanic periods resulted in; major plant and animal extinction events, the end of glacial eras and the dramatic alteration of Earth’s climate.
Ironically, CO2 is produced by each human exhaling and – more disturbingly - if CO2 drops below 150ppm in the atmosphere then all plant life dies i.e. plants need CO2 to photosynthesis (this is why controlled environment gardeners fill the greenhouse they are growing in with more CO2 to promote growth), then animals die, then we die i.e. we, who are incidentally, carbon-based life forms e.g. bones are made of calcium CARBONATE.
Therefore, the real question is:
If the Earth is a self-correcting system, with each system contributing to the survival and recovery of each, then shouldn't the self-correcting mechanisms that exist on Earth be preserved and protected under a "Goldilocks Law" that not only ensures the Earth can keep self-correcting, but also so we can ensure a future for everyone else to come?
This Goldilocks Law" must also include a symbiote clause that states;
Any organism/plant that has a symbiotic relationship with another organism/plant then this is protected and preserved under the "Goldilocks Law"
There are many examples of symbiotic relationships on this Planet e.g. our relationship with CO2 and the importance for human, plant and animal growth and planetary sustainability, but this is at least one to start the drive for a "Goldilocks Law". So, there is a lot we can do, but there are also natural influences that we have no control over e.g. solar minimum/solar maximum. So, it is about remembering that we are mammal's - and as such - we need to maintain a dynamic equilibrium with the Earth and do our best to live symbiotically.
@daniella619 thanks for letting me know about this nice contest.
Climate change is a big problem and one should not underestimate it.

This is a good article dear.
We have to do something here in Nigeria because, our river areas like Kogi state just started having this flood issue
That's right
Let's pseak up for the government to look into it very well
@daniella619, Yeah...global warming increasing yet with some of human activities. Especially came with industrial revolution. But people can reduce via following natural habits as I previously wrote my content. I saw your state's changing climate style from this article. I can understand how world's climate changes happen. Thanks for share your ideas.
Yeah
Thanks too for stopping by
Those and several other problem in this world were caused oneself and now look at other side, congratulation for your decision of help.
