Capsules

Hi Friends,

When it comes to investing in silver and gold, one thing that investors need to figure out is whether or not they will use capsules regularly:

Capsules can provide some benefits, such as preventing scratches or helping reduce air exposure to minimize toning and milk spotting. However, they also add to your costs and increase the size of the coin’s footprint by almost double, which makes a difference in high volume.

So my question to the stacking community: when does it make sense to use capsules and when should you just stack it naked?

Thanks in advance for the discussions!

That’s a question I’ve been asked often. I put all gold in a capsule no matter what. All my silver vintage rounds, any semi numismatic coins.
It’s up to the individual. If you are buying the same style coins then the tubes they come in are the best. All my American Silver Eagles are in the mint tubes. I didn’t buy most of them as full tubes, say I bought 4 or 5 at a time.

Makes sense, thanks for sharing your advice!

I don't use capsules for the American Silver Eagles that I stack. I don't use capsules for US Constitutionals. The rest of the coins and rounds, I use capsules... to protect them... even the vintage, heavily toned rounds!

Capsules take up storage space so I reserve them for coins that have a high premium value collectables most often Numismatics. The bulk side of my stack like Maple Leaf I keep in the original tubes, and for my Pirate treasures its in my Treasure chest collection.

Smart moves!

I remember a time when I could get a Silver Dollar from the Bank for a little more than it costs for a Plastic Capsule these days... Most of my 90% Silver Coins are in Bank Bags... My rare Silver Coins are in Capsules... Sometimes it's worth the extra cost... To me, it's like Spending a Penny to put a $10 Silver Coin in a Plastic Capsule, that may be Exchanged for a One Ounc $100 Silver Coin that will have the Spending Power of 10,000 of today's Fiat USD's, plus "Collector Premiums"... That's because Phase Two will do Ten Times better than Phase One... I'm expecting to Witness the Melt Value of Silver, Fluctuating in Price, all the way up to 9,000 Dollars per Ounce in today's Fiat USD's...

When we start getting loss then we start understanding about capsules. Thanks for telling.

I don't use any capsule for my coins I stack, silver or not.
