As an ex military person, all to often we must ship out with new orders to a new duty station, leaving well-developed friendships behind. My example exists with facebook where I have reconnected with friends I have not seen in over 40 years, nor may I never see them again. Friends we remain, still.
In a different scenario however, if you hear this from a lover, it only means they're gone for good.
