Why learning multiple skills will always be useful

Something I saw again and again when I was trying to learn how to make money online was people saying "Learn one thing only, stop trying to learn multiple skills at once". I was well aware why people said that, but I never agreed with it. I understand the reason behind it, but to be honest, these days it doesn't seem like knowing only one thing is gonna get you far.

Here's what I mean. Let's say, for example, that your main skill is writing. Let's say you can easily put words on paper and it's not hard for you to write entire stories in just a few hours. Now, if you take that skill and you use it wherever you can, you may be able to make a living out of it, and I agree that polishing your skill and becoming better at writing every single day will be extremely useful.

However, taking 15 minutes daily to learn a new skill that may help you with your books or even articles (if you ever plan on doing that) will have a huge impact on your productivity and the quality of your work.

I can give myself as an example - when I was 14 years old I learned how to use Photoshop thinking that's what I'm gonna do for the rest of my life. I spent hours every single day creating all kind of stuff and watching all kind of tutorials on YouTube. A few years later I stopped being interested in that software and I started learning web design and development.

I spent entire months learning how to use HTML, CSS & JavaScript, how to make a website from nothing, how to use Bootstrap and so on. Then I got bored of that as well and I started writing. I published for a while on Medium then I discovered Steemit and since then I'm trying to publish something on this website every single day.

Some of you may think "you'd have a lot more money if you would've worked in Photoshop or on web design & development only", and you may be right. However, those skills are extremely useful when it comes to writing as well.

First, whenever I need a custom preview or image for one of my articles I don't need to find someone to do it for me or to pay for an image. I can just do it myself. Depending how complex the image is, I could spend 15 to 30 minutes in Photoshop creating it. That is extremely useful whenever I need to do something fast, because I don't need to wait at all.

Second, the web design and development skills help me a lot as well. Because I know HTML & CSS at a decent level I can easily format my text whenever I need to do it, without searching for tutorials online trying to understand how the code works. All I have to do is use all the tags I know and I can easily position images or play with the text on my articles.

Those are the two main skills that I use in my day to day life, something I learned a long time ago that turned out to be extremely useful now. Who knows what other things I may use in the future that I learned a few years ago, things that may help me in difficult situations.

What you should think about whenever you have the chance to learn something new is that you may need that thing in the future, in certain situations. It doesn't matter what it is - programming, video editing, graphic design, web design, copywriting, marketing and many more things - all that can help you with whatever you do, at any moment, so don't waste your time avoiding learning new things and try to gain as many skills as possible.

Hi, Steemit family" Nice to meet you,
Great Post <> good luck <>..!!!

I think exactly like you in this case. Surely, a few interests need more time, but when you learn different things, the brain works better. And who knows when the other skill will be helpful. 👐🏻

I think that you may be a scanner.

Take care and continue to discover new things!👍🏻

Glad to see there are other people who love learning a lot of things, and thank you, I will take a look at your post! :)
