Fruits of Tenerife: every vegan´s dream come true

Hey Steemians!

I would like to dedicate my today´s post to one of the benefits of living in the tropics and that is (at least for me) exotic fruits! :)

There are many exotic fruits that are grown (and can be thus bought) in every tropical or subtropical region but there are also numerous local fruits (or cultivars) that you come across only in certain places.

Let me show you some of the fruits we loved (and ate tons of!) while living on Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

Most avocados sold in stores worldwide are of the peer-like shape but on Tenerife, this round form is the most common.

This fruit is colloquially known as the sea grapes. Its scientific name is Coccoloba Uvifera.

Papaya (orange) and pitahaya (or pitaya, also known as dragon fruit). Pitahaya comes in two cultivars – pink (featured in the photo) and white.

Papaya, star fruit (or carambola), maracuja (or passion fruit – the yellow seeds in white skin), green mango and kaki (or persimmon – the orange “apple” in the right)

Star fruit, avocado, lime, mango oro (golden or yellow mango).

However, the most iconic fruit of Tenerife (as well as the whole Canary Islands) is the banana! This is how they grow.

The cool thing about them is that you can pick them completely green…

…and they turn perfectly yellow and sweet in a few days :)

As all of these photos were taken by my cell phone camera, this is also my entry for today´s #smartphonephotography contest organized by @juliank and @photocontests.

Hezký víkend a dobrou chuť!

Dear @phortun. I have loved that photos so fresh and the variety of colors that each take for its fruits, I congratulate you. Here in Venezuela, that grape that you pronounce is known as the beach grape, the aguacate is also very tasty besides being super tasty with an arepa it is excellent and also in salads. The pitahaya is super rich although it is produced in more arid areas of venezuela, I love the parchita, besides that an ice cream is super rich and the banana we call it cambur and finally what to say about the mango ? It is the national fruit of our country we love it ripe and green and in all its varieties. I like your photos, they are spectacular.

Thank you so much for your nice and interesting comment (and for the follow too!). This is exactly the kind of comment I am happy to upvote :) Glad to learn all these things about fruits in Venezuela. Hopefully I will visit yout homeland one day :)

@phortun Without a doubt, my country is a beautiful land full of life and color despite the difficult times, its culture, food and beaches are phenomenal. I hope you can be here soon and make some good pictures like those you made with these fruits. It would be great if I could photograph the Salto Angel, Medanos of coro, Mérida (The city of knights) and the beautiful mountain of Waraira Repano (El Ávila), it will have a lot to tell, oh and to enjoy the famous pavilion and some good empanadas with a Maltin Polar. It will be unique. And let me let you know that Spain is the first country I have had in mind to visit. I love everything that it has, it is extremely charming and hopefully I can be there soon.

Yeah, I heard Venezula is a country of extraordinary natural and cultural beauty :) Thanks for the nice comment.

For nothing friend, beautiful photos. Regards @phortun.

Tak to je bomba!! Ta avokáda mi úplně nahnala sliny do úst..to, co tady člověk pořídí, to se nedá srovnat. Ty ostatní dobroty se tady ani nepokouším nakupovat! Už se těším, až zase někam vyrazíme:-)

A to ještě kdybys věděl, jak tady ty avokáda chutnají! :D Je to holt něco jiného, když se všechy ty dobroty pěstují přímo tady a do obchodů to vozí rovnou z plantáží, než když se to naškube nezralé a pošle přes půlku světa do míst, kde to správně nemá co dělat :)

Lovely pictures. I love pitahaya, not only does it look beautiful, but it also tastes very good!

Exactly :) looks and tastes great :)

Great post! I grew up with these fruits, I love them all!

Lovely fruits. Reminds me of Hawaii. Does anyone grow durian, breadfruit, or jackfruit in Tenerife?

I havent been to Hawaii but its on my list! :D And nope, didnt see any of these fruits on Tenerife... I think these are commonly found in Asia, right?

I like pitahaya how is called in Yucatán,México.
Great job friend. You have a new follower

thanks! I love pitahaya too :)

In Central Aceh, many people grow avocados in their yard. Usually for sale and self-consumption.
If you come to Central Aceh, you will find this fruit very easy

Yeah, I picked those avocados by myself too :) thanks for your comment!

Je fakt, že v tropické flóře i fauně se barvama nešetří.

To rozhodně :)

looks yummy!!! Some of them, we don't have here in Panama. Like pitaya and the sea grapes =). They look delicious!

They are! :) I am sure you have some other fruits that they dont have on Tenerife though ;)

Pestrá paleta barev i chutí ;-)

Jo jo :) Btw, máš pěknou fotku v Prague photo challenge ;) Jen ještě trochu doplň popisek, aby to bylo aspoň těch 30 slov, bylo by škoda, kdyby se nekvalifikovala ;)

;-). Díky za upozornění. Že bych tam dopsal, jak bylo hnusně sychravo?;-)

There's some of my favourite fruits in these pics. I didnt know they all grew in Tenerife! Must visit some time

Yeah, it is a little island but has a lot to offer :) Thanks for stopping by :)

That's amazing!👌

Wow great photography all the images are amazing..... foods looks really good and delicious and yummy thank you for sharing the recipe....

Jeee v Tenerife maji stejne ovoce jako my tady. ;) Papayu mam moc rada!

Jojo, většina je stejná... tam ale měli navíc běžně karambolu a maracuju, tady jsou vidět jen občas.

I could have taken a picture of our backyard... But I won't, it lacks any colours (except the ugliest camouflage-like muddy one) in the midst of such a snowless winter we are experiencing.

Yeah, those muddy snowless winters can get a bit depressive. I am glad I avoided that this year :D

will you guys be kind enough to visit my profile as i just started and want a bit of feedback of my posts. thank you
