Much connected with this building, where the scientific departments of the Russian State Library are located today, is covered with a veil of mystery. At least the fact that in all guidebooks the architect Vasily Bazhenov is indicated as the author of this magnificent mansion, built in 1784-1786, but there is no documentary evidence of this. It was not for nothing that Bulgakov sent his Woland to the roof of Pashkov's house.
