RE: Dear SoMeeians, Those who are observing the month of Ramadan, I wish you light and peace.

Fasting has many benefits. It was prescribed by God and the teachings of the Prophets. It improves health by way of detox and a prevention from over and unnecessary eating. It helps to give up bad habits and be patient. It makes you appreciate what you have and value your meals. It's a way to realise how the underprivileged feel without food and drink. It makes you reunite with family and friends by sharing, caring and eating together. It's a time to reflect and thank God, help the needy and share from what you are blessed with.

Fasting may be a little difficult for the first few days as your doing something different than everyday but the body gets used to it very quickly. It's not as bad as many think. It's only 1 meal that's not eaten as early morning meal is taken and the fast is opened with a well prepared dinner. So it's just the lunch which is skipped. Imagine those who don't get 3 meals and are without food and drink for days on end. Here in Ramadan it's a great realisation and appreciation, with values to it's reasoning. It is also a month of forgiveness where one asks for forgiveness and are forgiving.

There's many good points about fasting and Ramadan which is so beautiful. Focusing on the fact that they starve (as many believe) and disregarding or not knowing the essence of it's true reason and it's beautiful concept would be now worth learning for a better understanding and increasing knowledge of other religions and cultures. It helps with integration, acceptance and understanding of communities :)
