Día 4: Primer día #7daypositivitychallenge
Les cuento sobre mi primer día de pasantía en la clínica veterinaria El Hogar de las Mascot's. Como primer consejo me dijeron que llegan casos de todo tipo y lo importante que es mantener la actitud en esas situaciones. Afortunadamente, las consultas de ese día fueron casi de rutina y pude practicar cosas sencillas.
Let me tell you about my first day of internship at the El Hogar de las Mascot's veterinary clinic. As a first advice they told me that there are cases of all kinds and how important it is to maintain an attitude in those situations. Fortunately, the consultations that day were almost routine and I was able to practice simple things
Mi primer paciente fue un lindo Beagle de 6 meses de edad, lo llevaban porque presentaba diarrea y querían desparasitarlo. Se revisó, se tomó una muestra de heces y no presentaba nada inusual. Hablando con los dueños se concluyó que podría ser un problema digestivo ya que recientemente le habían cambiado la alimentación y que de todas maneras lo mantuvieran en observación, por si las diarreas continuaban o se presentaba vómitos.
My first patient was a cute 6-month-old Beagle, he had diarrhea and wanted to deworm him. We checked him, took a sample and did not present anything unusual. Talking with the owners, it was concluded that it could be a digestive problem since they had recently changed their diet and kept him under observation, in case the diarrhea continued or vomiting occurred.
El otro caso más lindo fue el de unos cachorritos de 1 mes aprox. que acababan de rescatar ¡eran una hermosura! Yo los quería adoptar a todos.
Al revisarlos, notamos que estaban desnutridos. Podía sentir la columna vertebral a pesar de todo el pelaje que tienen, aparte que las encías estaban pálidas. Al hacerles la muestra de heces, encontramos unos parásitos llamados Dipylidium caninum comúnmente conocido como tenia. Estos son transmitidos por las pulgas y si se fijan bien en las fotos, estos cachorros estaban infestados... Los pesamos y los desparasitamos, de verdad se portaron super bien. Y tomé varias fotitos para ustedes <3
The other cutest case was about 1 month old puppies. that had been just rescued, they were beautiful! I wanted to adopt them all. Checking them, we noticed that they were malnourished. I could feel the spine despite all the fur they have and the gums were pale. When we took sample, we found some parasites called Dipylidium caninum commonly known as tapeworm. These are transmitted by fleas and if you look closely at the photos, these puppies were infested... We weigh them and dewormed them. And I took some photos for you.
El último paciente del día fue otro bebé rescatado que tenía parásitos en las heces. Y al revisar la muestra por el microscopio, efectivamente tenía bolsas de huevos de Toxocara, probablemente se haya contagiado de la madre. Lo desparasitamos y se portó como un ángel.
The last patient of the day was another rescued baby who had parasites. And checking the sample through the microscope, he actually had bags of Toxocara eggs, probably get infected by his mother. We dewormed him and he behaved like an angel.
It is very comforting to see that some people are willing to continue giving homes to animals spite of the country situation and the desire to save a life (or several) brings out the best in us. The important thing is to realize that even if it is one by one, every one of us counts and we can generate a change.
