Los días 31 de agosto por la noche, desde hace 32 años se realiza en el municipio de San Pedro Cholula (Estado de Puebla- México) la procesión de los faroles; una tradición religiosa en la que los habitantes de los 10 barrios que conforman la localidad se reúnen para celebrar a la Virgen de los Remedios, cuyo templo se encuentra en la cima de la Pirámide de Cholula (que está sepultada).
Consiste en un recorrido por las principales calles de la comunidad, donde los vecinos caminan con faroles alumbrando la noche.

Avanzan cargando imágenes religiosas representativas de la iglesia de cada barrio, al son de música de viento, porras, rezos y fuegos artificiales. El siguiente vídeo que tomé (disculpen la calidad) ilustra un poco en qué consiste.
habitantes son entusiastas, y comentan que su fe les lleva a decorar y poner esmero en las figuras religiosas que portan. Ejemplo de ello esta figura de San Diego, que tenía luz LED en su farol.

Ese fue un día lluvioso, curiosamente en la noche dejó de llover, la creencia de los habitantes es que al lanzar fuegos artificiales el cielo "se abre" y permite realizar las festividades.

La celebración de ese día culmina con la llegada a la iglesia de la virgen de los remedios y una misa. A partir de ahí son 10 días de actividades aproximadamente, una de ellas el 8 de septiembre es " el trueque" donde se reúnen personas llegadas de varias partes del estado para intercambiar productos.
