The similarities between spirituality and a highly creative lifestyle

I do not attend a conventional church. There is a small group of us that meets on Sunday mornings at a loft on Woodward Ave. and we have three readings in accordance with regular liturgy cycles. We discuss the readings and apply them to economic and social structures, dissect them and then take away what we will for our week. We also have communion followed by lunch afterwards. The second reading today was Romans 8:9, 11-13. It read "Brothers and Sisters: You are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. If the spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also, through his spirit that dwells in you. Consequently, brothers and sisters, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."

Almost immediately I thought of how closely living creatively and living with spirituality are. When I am creating, painting, writing, baking, I feel I am living in a spiritual place. I am not merely eeking out an existence, I am not just breathing, eating, sustaining, it is through our creative self we can have a spiritual self and be closer to God.

I believe that if more people were to focus on their creative selves and their child selves, we would not have such enormous power struggles throughout the world. It is when we give in to the flesh, greed and other similar hungers, that we do not live in the light, and do not meet greater human potential.

My dog is out in the grass as the breezes blow. I am thinking of stretching canvas for my next painting and what to make for dinner. My reflections today feel light and the sky is crystalline. Be still oh heart! and then beat on, true and filled with love, spirit.

I couldn't agree more, I think that creativity and spirituality are closely linked. Without spirituality and creativiy is a very grey and unfulfilled life.

Beautifully framed and said. To create is to play, play is pure spirit. Just followed you - looking forward to following your journey!
