How about the Splinterlands Frontier? Will Calamity break some barriers? No... but a storm is brewing! The conflicts are live again! Enter Frontier... where strategy, progression, and true on-chain ownership collide.

Whispers rise... whispers of Riftwatchers turning on allies, allies turning on each other. Elves, dwarves, gnomes, ulund, orcs... killing their own. One swears they walked in on themselves, saw their own face grinning above a dying friend. Madness.

Years ago, an axolotl egg found its way into the brood of Sheng Xiao. When it hatched, the lung dragon took it in, nurtured it, protected it, taught it to harness magic. She named it Calamity.

This is your chance to prove yourself on a battlefield where every move matters. Frontier is free-to-play, built for strategy, and designed to reward skill. Every card you earn is yours and even your non-crypto friends can flex this NFT magic.

Frontier levels the field... no whales, just skill. The evolving meta keeps every season fresh, fueling demand and giving real utility to your cards. I’ve only leveled a few cards so far... but everyone’s equal right now, and strategy beats unit level. The grind will pay off!

Hustle hard and climb the ranks! There are chests to unlock at every tier as you rise higher. The game is on and the battles… well, they feel a bit boring at first. Why? Limited cards and a small selection pool. But even in the chaos of new beginnings, some good strategies are starting to take shape.

Here's one of mine, with Thalgrimore leading an army of death units, focused on draining enemy health. And it works! Let's go first through team selection and then will tell you why I went for this line-up:

  • Thalgrimore: -1 Health to all enemies
  • Spinaltail Fiend: Melee with Sneak
  • Sorrow Harvester: Caster with Weaken
  • Little Sister: Caster with Life Leech
  • Spellmonger: Untrainable with Thorns

As the battlerules were simple, Super Sneak and Reverse Speed, the last unit would be the main target. This is why I used the Spellmonger and those deadly thornes!

Having only 29 mana for the units means that both teams will be rather short, or with low cost units. This means low health points, which can go even lower after Thalgrimore and the Sorrow Harvester curse the opponents!

The summoner shaves one health off opponents, and Sorrow Harvester takes it down another notch. This gets even deadlier with rules like Noxious Fumes or Earthquake.

This battle had Super Sneak and Reverse Speed, which meant slow units struck first and focused on the back row. That’s where Spellmonger waited... untrainable but dangerous with Thorns. The Twice Yester Knight struck twice, only to fall to the reflected damage. As planned, Sorrow Harvester claimed the first victim!

The Spinaltail Fiend is a decent tank, and he only had to go head2head with one unit, as all the other super sneak attacks will focus on the back-line. The Little Sister was the pivot of the battle, as the life leech will keep her at high health!

Frontier battles move fast… three rounds in and the field was nearly empty. The casters kept firing, and Little Sister wasn’t so little anymore ... every attack boosted her health, making her unstoppable.

The strategy made the difference! The casters where casting, and the Little Sister wasn't that little anymore. Attack after attack was adding health See the full battle here!

Thalgrimore’s health drain stacked beautifully with Sorrow Harvester’s Weaken, and dropping enemy health by two at the start tilted the fight in your favor right away. In Frontier, where decks are still low-level, that kind of opening pressure is massive. You also adapted perfectly to Reverse Speed. Instead of being a weakness, your slower casters like Sorrow Harvester and Little Sister became first-strike threats, which fit the ruleset like a glove.

Placing Spellmonger in the backline turned out to be a smart trap. With Super Sneak, enemies had no choice but to strike him, and the Thorns damage made the Twice Yester Knight pay dearly for the attempt. That swing in momentum set you up for control of the match.

Meanwhile, Little Sister quietly scaled every turn with Life Leech, and once the battlefield began to clear, she became the unstoppable finisher... a snowball win condition that closed the fight decisively. Still, the lineup had its vulnerabilities.

The Spinaltail Fiend in the frontline doesn’t provide much cover. Against a stronger opener, your casters could have been exposed too early, and a sturdier tank or sacrificial meat shield might have bought more time.

Spellmonger, while effective this time, is risky too. If the opponent had brought ranged Sneak instead of melee, he might have gone down too quickly, making the Thorns trap useless.

You also leaned heavily on Little Sister’s scaling to finish the job. If she’d been silenced or focused down early, the team would have struggled to close out the match. A secondary damage dealer or backup staller could have given you another win condition.

And finally, because Frontier decks are limited, opponents may soon start predicting the Thalgrimore plus Weaken combo. Mixing things up with armor manipulation or a magic-heavy approach could help you stay less predictable.

Overall, the synergy was excellent, the ruleset adaptation spot on, and you played to Frontier’s strengths where strategy beats levels. With just a sturdier frontline and a backup threat, the lineup could become even more resilient.
